Well we're on the Homeward leg now after a whistle stop tour of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland....
Wild camping, stunning scenery heaps of friendly people, whisky, ferries and midges....
Currently camped at Alnmouth recuperating after driving up the West coast via Loch Doon in the Galloway forest visiting Callander, then over to Islay for a couple of days and then on to Oban and the ardnumurchan penninsula.
Stunning all the way and I'm already planning similar next year but up to the Orkney Isles.

Few pictures... ;-)

looks like a fab trip, good selection of landys, really dig the convoi exceptionnel banner

I've always fancied a trip to the outer Hebrides especially barra, maybe one day

We had one spell of very impressive "green laning" organised by a friend with contacts in very high places....
There are no "green lanes" as such north of the border only forestry tracks that you can sometimes negotiate access for.
The scenery is well worth it though as is the wild camping... As for driving the series, no biggie
Though 200 miles in one slab on tight twisty b roads is a bit of a work out lol.

Aye Avon skin so soft is king for keeping the midges off. Apparently they can't get grip and bite when it's on your skin.

He used a cream from Avon, recommended by the locals and he said it worked a treat:)

yeah, people have been saying it for ages. i've tried it before and got bitten.

i think it's just when it's wet it makes it hard for the blighters.. but any moisturising cream would do that.

50-100% deet works amazingly well, like you end up with scores of dead midge on your arm.. but it's a bit of a nasty chemical to rub over your skin.

iirc it also knackers plastics.. holiday companies used to go mental because it would take a month or two before the plastic deck chairs stained.

also lids and bags that i kept the bottles in melted.

They don't seem to bother with me too much, rarely get bitten by anything, they go for the wife instead :D

'Parantly the "skin so soft" recipe was altered and is now no longer as effective... Also "Smidge" is £8 down the drain...
They are utter utter Bastards and nowt will stop' em
Believe me I've the bites to prove it.
Stay near the coast, on high ground or pray for a breeze.... It's your only hope.... Ohhhh and never go without a midge net.
