Hello all,
Seen it's been coverd and never got anywhere really,
I've come across this video .. Land Rover 90 300TDI Turbo Flutter - YouTube
And wondering what he's done, I'm guessing it's a blow off valve/dump valve.
How would one go about fitting this as surely it won't work on a diesel unless you run an air suply to it and run it off a sensor on the throttle pedal or has he removed the wastegate and put a blow off on instead somhow?

Or is that just the sound of air surge as turbo slows quickly?

Or just a fluttery wastegate if you can get them???
Not quite sure how it's done.
Can call me a chav but I quite like it!!!

afaik (and im no expert) you get wastegate chattering or backpressure from lifting off.

i'd guess backpressure forcing it's way back out the turbo.. which really isn't good.

actually, i don't think that's right..:scratching_chin:

Yeh I know what ya mean.
I don't understand how it would have back presure tho as I see its running a straight through side exit so no pressure really?

I understand for a blow valve you need a throttle body wich diesels don't anyway!!
So only thing it would be is he's modded one on using an airsuply or what I'm heading is just turbo surge from air rushing back through from lifting off boost stalling the turbo ah think it's called??

It's compressor surge. the boost is turned up and when the throttle is shut there isn't enough flow through the hot side of the turbo to maintain the compressor speed and the higher boost so the boost surges back through the turbo.

Thanks owl. He must be running some serious pressure then. My 200 is on 22psi and doesn't have any surge so he must be goin on near 30 for that to surge like that surely??

you haven't just turned the boost up have you? you need to watch the exhaust temps else you'll kill your engine.

Yup I'm aware. That's the highest without the temp changing vastly at full boost. Got a sender just at the start of the downpipe so can see what it's doing ;)
