Ok so i have a SIP migmate 130 with a small throw away gas bottle, for argumants sake if i was constantly welding how long should i expect the gas to last, hours, weeks ?

10 mins, depends on how you got the flow set.

and he's being optimistic :D

big bottle will only last a couple hours of continuous... but that's a lot of welding.

on that note, i went into the workshop yesterday to find that someone had decided to have a go with my mig.. which is fine..but they never turned the gas off properly so emptied a full tank :(

Also depends if you are using argoshield or plain CO2.

best thing is to get a bigger bottle if you can, little disposable bottles get very expensive very quickly.

Cheers

Would be throwing my spanners out of the pram if that happened to me, and you are right my disposable bottles never lasted a whole 10 mins,

yeah i was a bit miffed at first. but i don't work there, i just get to use it and all the tools whenever i want. so for £30 quid i'll leave it and take the bottle away with me next time ;)

once I worked in a place than was full of welders of various types
(orbital welding in closed areas ) WTF
but out in the workshop was a nice ESAB I used for my stock car racing bits
I too must have upset someone, as the next time I went to use it, the wire was flowing out so fast it was pushing me away...... oops !!

after a while I bought my first home mig......

its a man and "his" tools thing I guess :D
