No dipped beams

Had a look searching but couldn't pin point it down too much


The other night, my dipped beams when switched from the high beams would take a second or so to come on as in there would be a pause between high and low beams where I would only have parks.

This happened a couple of times and then I had no low beams at all. High beams work perfectly though and flash fine.


Checked the headlight/indicator stalk switch for continuity and all working fine in it's different functions as that was my first thought after checking the bulbs and fuses. also checked to see was I getting power to the indicator switch ad was fine but obviously ok anyway as the high beams are still working too

Checked the fuses again though by probing the fuses and I have power at the high beam fuses but nothing at all at the low beam pair.

Swapped the relays around and made no difference either.


Anybody have any ideas to point me in the right direction before I go investigating further and blow it up

This problem is nearly allways the stalk, there may be enough current for continuity but contacts not good enough to light the bulb's.

Looped a wire to the pins for the low beams on the plug that goes into the stalk and still nothing while I could get the high beams working by changing to the pin feeding those so I'd imagine I have the stalk ruled out

Working back from the lights.....

Fuse 11 would take out the number plate and LH side lights whilst fuse 12 would do the RH side lights.

If these are in order both fuses are fed from a red wire which in turn lights up the dash and side light warning light.

If the dash doesn't light up then the red wire goes back to the light switch and voltage transformer.

If the light switch is working you are left with the voltage transformer or wiring to it.

Sometimes the pin on the relay pushes into the relay itself or the female in the receiver gets hot and moves backwards.

Either way it dosent make contact.

Yep, both sides of the sidelights work fine and the sidelight warning light on the dash is fine.

Could be something as simple as a bad earth too of course but I'd imagine but high and low beams would fail then.


I'll check the contacts in the relay. Relay is fine but contacts on the plug may indeed by after shifting back. Anybody know offhand which pin on the relay is for the dipped beams so I could bridge them to see if they work.
