Radio Mount

I have a 1994 110 which has a mounting box above clock, ciggie lighter and rear wiper. However I have gone to fit a radio and the box is half the length of the radio can anyone help?
Is this for a "short radio" or would it be for a CB or something.
It appears to be somehow connected into the top of the dash and it looks like I have to strip the dash to fit a full size mount, is there an easy way as it slide along with rear screws removed?

pics??? mine fits a standard size radio in, some singing and dancing ones (like mine) dont quite fit due to too many cables on the back, but its only 1/4"

If your 'radio' has a CD player it won't fit. The holes are designed for radios only. I got a replacement radio with USB port and iPod port and that fits perfectly. The previous one I installed to replace the original Landrover radio had a CD player and stuck out a mile

My Radio has a CD, iPod, Aux and it all fits,

Cant be removed however due to the adapter had to be pushed down the back of the dash

mines got a CD, and like I said, nearly fits, the one I did have in was also a CD, just not as many cables/aux outs on it and it also fit.
Mines on the fair weather round tuit list, cut a bit out of the plastic grill and itll go easy enough, just not great access through the din hole.

If it is the Land Rover grey one then it should take a standard radio / CD unit, shown below are a couple of photos of my old one which I removed last year after I fitted a Raptor console.
Fitting is actually very easy as you just need to lift the dashboard top-rail and remove the fixing screws (or pins) from the back.

Bought mine as a genuine LR part from a main dealer and after using it for a few years sold it on Ebay last year for three times the original purchase price, stange times we live in!

Those cheap black Halfords type one are shorter, the genuine Land Rover mounts are ok!

thats not an LR part, or if it is, its a very old one.

on the defender it overhangs the front of the dash lip, not a chance will that fit a full size rad, even if you cut the trim at the back I dont think there'd be enough depth.

The radio mount in my 93 defender is the same. I had a c.d. player in it which sat the same way. I got a deckless sony head for christmas which is only about 2 thirds the depth of the c.d. player an so sits right back into it's place.
