I also know that you can buy them as for when Tollbar got flooded the cars in the car yard was written off and then sold back as cat c, still see one running around now
Chin up Paul if you don't get to keep yours then take off what you can and buy another, i know it will not be the same but at least you are here to drive it.

I'm fairly sure if they write it off as flood damaged, then it can only be sold to a registered breakers who have to break it as it can not be put back on the road. So i think there is a good chance you wouldnt be able to buy it back. So if they have it you migt not see it again.
If you have it they may not pay out till you hand it over, but at least you can remove all the bits not included before handing it over

All depends on the category it's given.
If it's B or A then it can't go back on the road, but this is usually reserved for fire damaged vehicles.
C and D vehicles can be repaired.

To prove the point, someone I know managed to do something similar with a '75 MGB GT. A new set of carpets and a wiring loom later and it was legitimately put back on the road.

yeah change the fluids, new battery and maybe electrics and if it runs then surely insurance dont need to get involved?

At present it is his, he would have to hand it over for this to happen, it's not structural or full of gore/been involved in a serious incident etc, he doesn't have to buy it back because the insurance company haven't taken possession of it so he has much more bargaining power than if it was in a yard somewhere.
If it is tested and found sound/roadworthy then there is no reason for it not to go back on the road.

As for not getting the insurance involved to avoid premium rises etc I'm afraid it's too late for that, as soon as they have any idea (eg a phone call asking for advice) you have been involved in an incident even if you don't proceed with a claim it is put on file and used to asses your risk. I have know of people who dinged a rim on pothole or kerb and after asking wether it was worth claiming and deciding not have found it has been recorded as them being involved in an accident/incident resulting in raised premiums.

Home, with the Disco .. only just though so still nackered and hungry ..

Big thanks to David and Mark .. especially David! Collected me, went to see it and try to recover my wallet etc and 'stuff' .. but 'had a go' with his winch .. took a while but we have it.

Only damage is the Alpine light on nearside and the Landrover badge on the rear door handle .. apart from mud, leaves, ****e and a horrible stench!!

When we had it out on the road, there was a strap connected to the nearside front axle, wrapped round the disk/hub and stuck .. with the hook just right to have it away! The other end was fine, we reckon someone tried to have it using a ratchet strap .. and the strap came off the ratchet .. pics to follow later ..

Robbin bastards!!!! I'm can't wait for the photos. I once knew a guy who recovered a Jensen Contraceptor from the drink. Once all the **** was cleared out it was amazing how little damage had occurred in fresh water. I'm sure your get her back up and running.
