You sure its a standard fitting? As my last diff didn't have the threaded holes for the bracket to bolt into but my new one does. Last diff was 1987, not sure on the age of the new one
 
In your link it says standard on military only and optional on non military
"Applicable Models:
Defender to 2007 Military models, optional on all other Defender and Range Rover / Discovery models."
 
mine doesnt have one, but you have solved the question of what them bolt holes are for in the underside of my front diff :)

does it actually afford much protection?? if so might be worth me getting one for the sake of a couple o quid

Looking at the way my track rod bent in my accident it would have stopped it bending so much and I may have been able to limp home rather than float on a recovery truck!!!

Having said that mine took a hit and it may have then broken the diff.

I don't know but I'd rather a bent track rod than a that and a broken diif casing!!
 
That brackets fitted to my 1992 90, it's possible it was added on, but it seems more likely it was standard...
