Gearbox problem

Hi ppl....i have an '07 freelander 2,,manual 6-speed box...the problem is that it now only has 5th,6th an reverse gears...and the gear lever feels like your stirrin a large bowl of porridge...anyone have any ideas on the problem please??

Have you checked the cable & linkage?


I suffered from a stiff/squeaky gear stick operation on my 08 FL2 recently, simply oiled linkage (below battery). Solved issue. Didn't have any gear selection issues though. If you get someone to move your gearstick from inside car, you will be able to see your gear box linkage moving.
Thought try cheapest option first. Hoping it's just a damaged cable.

Did you ever get to the bottom of your lost 1st and 2nd gears as I have just got the same problem now. I drove back from Bristol to Cambridge ,ffth and with have always been difffidif to get into gear bit ive sort of got used to it.
On headigh out the following morning it was sluggish and I realized that where 1st and 2nd were. Is now 3rd and 4th. I've had the console out checked the cables and looked at the linkage and all seems fine just 1st and 2nd have been replaced by 3td and 4th.
I have only had the car for 5 months bought from a dealer.
