Doner TD5 for 90

It's possible to fit the TD5 unit in older Land Rovers but it seems like a lot of work compared to the more usual 200 or 300 TDI conversion. Web Rover has a description of his project Web Rover
As TD5 units start cropping up more regularly on the second hand market or as part of 'spares or repair' cars we'll probably see a lot more like this. Take lots of pictures and show us how you get on.

You will pick a 200 or 300tdi up for half that price. Miles more reliable too
Problem is that my gearbox will proba, bly give up if I stick anything with any power in front of it. This means a full transplant with engine gearboxes and rads etc so I'm struggling to find a cheap doner that's half decent.
Might just pull the 2.5n/a out, fix the oil leaks and steering box, stuff it back in and sell as a decent n/a 90 which is what it is.

Need to refurb the back axle first though and maybe a rear cross member then it's a good solid buy for someone and not a load of crap like most on fleabay recently.:)

There are plenty of discos for £5-600. Even if you had to buy another gearbox it would still be cheaper than the td5, much less hassle too :)

I'm still hoping you'll try a TD5, because it is a more interesting project. But the amount of work involved would mean that it wouldn't make sense if you were looking to sell it. The 200 or 300 would make sense if you're looking to build a vehicle to sell, as it's relatively straightforward and quick. TD5 on the other hand would make more sense as a longer term hybrid project for yourself.
