The price of airsprings

I was in Norway and found a leak in my rear airspring so i thought it would be easy to get one from the main Land Rover dealer in Oslo.
After a 4 day weekend I found the dealer and asked if they had any in stock .
The answer was No but we can get it from Denmark tomorrow and the cost will be 4,500 Norwegian Kronas thats about 600 pounds sterling for 1.
I have converted the electrics on it so i can manually inflate airsprings individually so every 50 km i will stop and reinflate the leaking one so I had to go to Sweeden to meet a friend
I ordered a pair of rear airspings to be sent to my friends address from Island 4X4 and they cost me 132 pounds and that included 16pounds freight via fed ex.
So think of the poor Norweigians that own a Range Rover and dont have access to an overseas supplier.
The other suggestion was that I fly bak to UK and pick up the parts and i would have still been better off.

Its the same everywhere in Europe, mate. But in theory our resale values are also higher. In Germany a 16 year old diesel P38 can still expect €6000 - €8000 and I've seen some on German Ebay asking €19000 with a straight face!

I've often wondered about starting an online parts shop or something. Just need to find out why the prices here are so much higher cos if its taxes and stuff then there's no point as it means my prices will work-up to be the same as everyone elses'.

If you get an account with someone like Island 4X4 they will freight the parts to you and if you have a pay pal account they will accept payment through that.
I dont know about the Customs but because you are in the EU i dont see a problem.
Maybe Norway had big excise duty on them as they are not a part of the EU

As Europe is SUPPOSED to be a free trade area there should not be any extra taxes on British goods. Above and beyond the normal tax applied in that country. Or is it only us that are obeying the rules as usual?

Try Island 4x4 and then maybe get DHL or Fed Ex to ship it out. That's outrageous. Might as well do all 4 if 1 is failing ... unless a pothole or similar knocked one of the end-caps loose on the air-spring. That happened to one of mine.

If you keep inflating it'll burn out the air compressor. Heaven knows what that'll cost you out there.

As Europe is SUPPOSED to be a free trade area there should not be any extra taxes on British goods. Above and beyond the normal tax applied in that country. Or is it only us that are obeying the rules as usual?

I get all my P38 and Transit parts from the UK, no problems with importation to France. Parts prices are ridiculous here.

600 for one air spring........you could always break it sell for parts while in norway. come back to the uk and buy a new one with the cash

Airsprings here are around the fifty quid mark for Dunlops and the sellers will be making 40-50% profit. £600.00 for one is seriously taking the ****.

In France it just seems to be one of those cultural things, folks have grown up with expensive parts and secondhand car prices and know no different. When I showed the MOT centre the price I paid for track rod ends for the Transit he was amazed, a quarter of the price of the same item here

I have ordered 2 new rear springs from Island 4x4 and they are shipping them out Fed Ex but needed an adress to send them to so i haqd them sent to a friend in Linkoping . I have been tracking this package and it took 2 days to get to Stockholm which is 130 km from here so i phoned the company up to see if i could pick it up from ther depot here but i found out that they have put it in the post for the last part of the journey and the weekend arrived so it has taken 5 days to get here and still has not arrived.and the tracking number for the parcel has not been updated so i still dont know when it will arrive.
The cost of these springs are 95 pounds + 16 pounds freight +vat so 132 pounds in all
