Rag-top Conversion.

Mate of mine has a 2a.

He went to Newbury Autojumble last week and bought himself a full canvas hood and stick set.

He's about to reomove the Safari top he has currently, but has realised he has a full-height rear door.

Anyone know where he can get the half-height tailgate? Ideally he ould like a "swing out" one, but I don't think one exists?

They weren't made by the factory, but pretty easy to make yourself. Take a normal tailgate, then use the rear door hinges at the top and bottom, and a couple of anti luce catches on the other side.

If you want to go really posh then use the door handle/striker from the original back door

the bonus with a drop down tailgate is the ability to load slightly longer stuff into the bed and still support it whilst transporting

side hinged is only any good for letting passengers in and out

Couple of bits of square tube, some old pallets and a pair of small door bolts - make your own!

Looks like a standard Defender/Series tail-gate?
