1986 landrover 90 - should I buy or not

That is the decision I need to make! Someone I know has bought a very new 2008 replacement and is seling his old one, it's a diesel, is a runner and he wants £600 for it. I already have a Landcruiser and a 3 door Discovery plus a 'summer car' I won't mention but have always wanted a 90/defender and can't explain or reason why. I guess I just need to work out how much grief I will get off the better half....

Can anyone give me a rough ball park for a full overhaul and rebuild as I would probably go down that route with galvo chassis. Are you talking 2-4k? Or more including interior re trim?

It really depends the condition of the major factors.

Bulkhead. If you replace it with a galvanized one will add upto £1000 fitted but if you are getting a chassis too worth it.

Galvanized chassis would be £1000+

Condition of the doors. If all 3 need replacing and you go with the modern ones that last longer looking at £2-300 a door so anywhere up to £900

How posh you want your interior. A new exmoor one could set you back up to £1500+

Then theres respray and any toys you want.

Oh and damn good security. You'll be well out of pocket if it gets nicked after all that effort.
