Current part code & source needed for relay in BECM

I've got Sh*tloads of parts.

Tell me what you need when you're confident you know exactly what parts you require.

Two windows work from one relay.

Well I deffo need Relay 11 anyway as my heated rear window doesn't work and I get fuse 12 error when fuse 12 is indeed ok - no power to fuse 12 either AND you can hear the relay chattering away before the error message comes up.

I'm hoping that will also sort out the LHR window, but Wammers has me wondering about that...

I might be able to source a relay now thanks to Keith's info, but if you already have one kicking around, I'd be grateful for details/price etc. I assume you'd have to de-solder it??

tnx all

Nik

Nik, I a few thousand relays hanging around my workshop somewhere.

I can supply any part you need. I can't advise you on how or what to do because if you make a mistake you're going to need another becm.

No, I meant wouldn't you have to de-solder it? But not if you've got thousands.

I'm handy with an iron and a de-soldering tools, so I don't have a problem replacing it. The hardest part will be getting it out of the car! :)

If you have the right one, can I have one then please? Just tried to order one from Farnell. Found it, added it, registered, checked out, typed addresses in, typed in payment details - "minimum order spend £20" that is soooo annoying when they could have told me at the start!! :)

Nik

Order two of them, or the amount needed. If one has failed inside the becm, it could be the primary or secondry. If one has failed then the other would of suffered a bit of stress to, so change them both.

Just remember. The relays are housed in plastic. If you hold the heat to long, & long is a matter of single digit seconds, the relay inside will melt rendering it usless.

Two windows work from one relay.

I hate to question your response Rick, but as both rear windows have different fuses and one works and the other doesn't it's hard to see how the same relay can operate both windows:confused:

Look elsewhere or use Rick, Farnell are not interested in the small customer these days. If you Google it you may find it elsewhere, maybe even Conrad Electronics for example

Relay has nothing to do with windows it is for heated rear screen. It's just that fuse 12 feeds both. If he disconnects the rear screen he may get a result sounds like it has a short.

Does one of the rears share it with the heated rear window? Or might I have lost 2?? :)

Nik

Listen very carefully i will say this only once more. Relay 11 has nothing to do with the windows. It is for the heated rear screen ONLY. It shares fuse 12 power feed with the L/H/R window but that is all.

Ok, possibly I have omitted to mention that fuse 12 hasn't blown (despite the error on the dashboard to the contrary) but also that there is no power to either side of fuse 12 - whilst at the same time, relay 11 in the BECM chatters away for a few seconds, stops, then the error comes up. I therefore assumed that fuse 12 was in circuit AFTER relay 11 - ie the relay switches the feed to fuse 12.

Maybe the relay is fine, but either way, there is no power to fuse 12 and neither the L/H/R window nor the demister work.

Any ideas?

tnx

Look at the circuit diagrams in RAVE. Fuse 12 feeds relay 11. It also feeds the L/H/R window motor. But NOT through relay 11. Relay 11 is activated (pulled in) by the BECM when heated rear screen is selected on the HEVAC unit. This puts power from fuse 12 through relay 11 to heated rear screen. If there is no power to the feed side of fuse 12 there is a circuit failure within the BECM. Relay 11 should not be doing anything if the heated screen is not switched on at HEVAC.

I'll re-check at the weekend. The relay chatters when you press the screen heater button on the HEVAC so it is clearly getting power. Maybe I've measured the power at the fuse incorrectly. Maybe I should measure it with either the window switch held or the HEVAC screen heater button pressed...

tnx

Yes the relay is getting power from the BECM and being pulled in but as it does that it should make contact from fuse 12 feed to heated rear screen. The pull in circuit and the circuit it makes when pulled in are totally different circuits.
