the low box vcu has started working was seized solid had a bump into some railings and hey presto it now works 
strange goings on

What is a low box VCU? Do you mean ECU. VCU is viscous coupling unit.

If you mean the ECU, obviously there are some bad connections/earths either to the the low range motor or the ECU. Sort it before you get stuck in low range.

cost a new bumper but alot cheaper than a new vcuHe could always put it in "How To" section as a fix.

How do you know that did you do the lift a wheel check? If so why are you driving around with it seized. Can you confirm this is indeed the Vicous coupling unit we are talking about and not the high/low range motor.

garage checked it said it was vcu drove fine plenty of drive but once in low it would not run right gave a jerking feeling

Can't see how VCU could act differently in low than it does in high. It does just the same thing in both settings. If it was seized solid and you have been driving on the road for any length of time you would expect something to have failed in the drive train before now.

Garage talking out of the anal orifice again. Probably the Hi/Lo range selection motor seized but for sure not the VCU. Maybe you're hearing is not too good and they said ECU?
