Hi all

Have recently swapped my 2010 Nissan pathfinder for a 1999 RR 2.5 DT due to me not using it hardly with my new job.

Have done a service on it and swapped oil etc, ( not diffs, etc yet ) and mended driver window regualtor, etc just a few bits.

However, have noticed when driving it I was getting the Engine MIL light and lack of power when the engine was overruning ( i.e changing gears ) sometimes, maybe 1 in 20 times.

Have taken it to a local LR Independant who got it on his Autologic and was getting the above fault showing as logged.

After trawling lots of posts, etc I have seem lots with similar symptoms, and advice that it could be the Crank position sensor, Needle lift sensor or the Fuel Injection pump at fault.

As the CPS was the cheapest I went ahead and changed this but no change.

Regarding the readings from the CPS and NLS I did notice on his live readings that the values for both these seemed to match OK when we revved the engine, though we were only stood and not moving.

So, at a bit of a loss now as does it mean the only option left is to change the FIP or is there anything else I might be able to check first ?

Many thanks in advance

The fuel quantity solenoid stop is worn allowing the potentiometer to drop below it's rest position out of range. And/Or there is a wear area on the potentiometer track where the wiper is losing contact. Not a DIY job unless you really know what you are doing.

Hi Wammers

Thanks for the prompt reply.

So its pretty certain that its a fault on the fuel injection pump ?

I am no expert so wont be attempting what your outlining, is it a job for a bosch diesel specialist ?

Thanks

Yes but he will possible, well almost certainly, stick you with an exchange pump.

Ouch......

Ball park figure for supply and fitting.....?

( Dare I ask ! )

Varies, if you look around you should get an exchange pump for £600.00 or so. Two or three hours to fit and time. If you go the second hand route (Ebay) and get some one to fit it for you, make sure the pump you get has exactly the same part number as the one you take off or it will not work without being modded.

Hi,

I guess I would need to take the manifold off to get a proper look at the numbers on the pump ?

I see that Emmotts advertising here have one for sale if its the sale model.

Any other places you would recommend to source one from ?

Thanks

That's a recon not new ! That's why it's an exchange part so the electrics if any wont be new

Yes but i did say you can get an exchange pump for about £600.00 here we have one for less than £500.00. Fully reconditioned and tested. Just as good as new and guaranteed for the same length of time a new one would be. What more could you want. Why pay silly money for a new pump?

Because when a pump is reconditioned its the internals and seals not the electrics , where is the actuator in the top if its worn you must buy new or fiddle with it !

Do you seriously think that if the electrics did not check out they would put them back in a refurbished pump? The pump is stripped and worn parts replaced along with any electrics needed. Then it is calibrated and tested for function. When you have a puncture or a duff tyre do you replace the entire wheel?

Exactly it £60o for a pump £ 300 for the top there isn't a fix these days bit like a calipers if it don't work change it ! Just because they send out a recon pump it won't have a new £300 pounds worth electrics weather it works and for how long is another matter :)

You can get a refurbished mechanical VE pump for £250.00 it's the electrics that make the VE EDC version so expensive to repair.

I very much dought your a injection specialist ,I have had my pump reconditioned my symptoms were a leak I could not fix and worn actuator sticking when the pedel was pressed and stalling ! I investigated this through many injection specialists ,I like to get more than one side of the story .

My choices were get the pump reconditioned to stop the leaks with fitting £700 and buy a new actuator around £250 plus vat so that added to the recon and fitting over £1000 quid

A new pump in a box with the actuator £900 Plus vat plus fitting places like that don't mess about with acuators , as you are aware its powerd by eletrical magnets and the working inside wear chuck away get a new one that's how these places work

Fortunatly I managed to sorce a working second hand one that to this day still works !

The sites that say reconditioned have had new seals and internals adjusted and the acuators tested but! They are not new and can wear at any point after that's why as in the ones you put in the link are exchange recons

There is no direct connection between the throttle pedal and the FIP it's fly by wire:confused:

Yes and it's the electrical impulse that activate the magnets bit like pressing a scale electric car the more you push the faster it goes
