Headlining revamp

Happy new year!

Thought I'd upload a few pix of my latest project while I'm waiting for glue to dry!

With all the recent rain I was getting increasingly annoyed with water soaking me from my headlining so got the sealant out and have applied liberally.

With the linings out I thought I'd take the initiative and do something about the sag....
Found some gr8 material and have already covered the middle section

But the front section is taking a while to dry;

Going to refit wish some extra insulation too

have been handy with some ply and carpet offcuts for the rear windows as cant find any proper trim panels n ebay -borrowed a router and made it bend at the edges too!;

should be refitting later today so more pics to follow...!

didnt get round to covering the front liner last nite as had an EPIC changing my handbrake shoes + cable!

Mine sags so its something I need to look at.

Just about to do mine. Dad has just converted a van to a camper, and was looking to get some of the same trimming material he used.

I removed my headlining last year and havent got around to refitting it yet.

One thing Ive noticed whilst it been off is the amount of condensation that collects on the underside of the roof. It literally drips down on me as I drive. Obviously this condensation would otherwise drip onto the back of the headlining, causing it to sag?

TO stop the condensation stick some camping mat on the roof before you put the headliner back on . work in mine The matt came from Millets and was around 3 quarters of a inch thick. So no more wet roof.

I'm about to do mine but the stuff I found is 1/2" thick

new pics added to the first post,

still need to find my marlin spike to make the holes for the fir tree clips but it will take a while to dry so no rush...

iv got a rad haz liner to fit with this so hopefully that will stop all the condensation and insulae the cab!

the material i used was this stuff;

1m camper van lining carpet super stretch for caravan boat | eBay

i bought 2 lots of the above and its just enough to do both the liners, it comes with free cans of spray glue and its quite thin material but very tough so it stretches and flexes round the contours well

also had to buy extra trim fix glue with the material as used about 2 and a half cans per panel -so got a little left for the third panel when i find one!

will add a final pic when its all fitted

Love your work deaftone - I am embarking on exactly the same process. Finished the silicone today. Will be gluing some laminate underlay non-porous to the roof tmra bought from here:

15m2 Roll - Novostrat Sonic Gold 5mm - Acoustic Underlay For Wood or Laminate | eBay

Once that is done I will be attaching the material you recommend to the 3 pieces of board that I've removed and is currently drying out. May I ask did the liner material

stick nice and good? and more importantly is that still the case now that it has been installed for a week. Cos I note from other discussions on this topic upholsterers use foam backed?

ive just done my roof with the camping mat trick prior to sticking some foam backed headlining material on top. This morning no condensation apart from on one rib where I had not put the matting as Id run out of glue. I was impressed as it really makes a difference!

Sorry for my delay in replying

Yes the OEM lining is foam backed and from what I can make out, the foam to panel glue is usually good and lasts the life of the vehicle -problem is the adhesive used to glue the foam to the grey lining material which perishes from the heat over time, de-adhears and hence you get the sag.

So far my lining is fine and I didn't scrape any of the foam off the original panels which were fitted 2000 /2001, I have just had to scrub the foam from this rear panel -think its a 1997, so it totally depends if you think yours needs it removed, oh and a nail brush is great for doing that!
