RF Receiver - how much taking the p*ss

Looking at a new RF receiver - one of those jobs should have done ages ago now they were expensive before at from memory island used to be about 170 quid now they are £200 bloody rip off

Island 4x4 is the cheapest usually, I talked my local stealer into a discount and got it for £180, I must say its the best money I have spent on the old girl.

Economic downturn to blame. The cost of twopenny resistors and ten penny transistors has hit the roof. Seriously though, you would wonder how you can get a 32" LCD HD television for less than you can get a RF receiver for. The sum of the components parts possibly will not be more than a tenner.

I remember that Island used to post prices without VAT and now all the prices are including VAT. Maybe that's the reason why you remember the price being lower ?

I just unplugged mine, job done. Blipper still works if you use it near the back window.

Unplugged mine and wrapped in tinfoil as per Nik. Nik also mentioned some sort of snap-on things. Cannot remember what he called them. Some sort of in-line compression for the power feeds so they don't pass on stray signals.

Mine's been all right since.

How is this the case? My locks are fine and I just open it using the key.

So you have completely disconnected the RF receiver? If not, one failure mode is it constantly sends a lock or unlock message which burns the lock motors out.

I've just disconnected the wire (blue I think) that goes to the module.

When I bought the car, the garage mentioned that they'd replaced the battery as the old one kept going flat. After reading a P38 buying guide I checked at night to see if the P was lighting up in the gear indicator in case the BECM was waking up from a signal. Sure enough, every couple of minutes it would light up and then go off after a while.

So I disconnected the wire to the module and it's been fine ever since. Eventually I'll get round to replacing the rf module but probably not till next year some time.

+1 I am with Datatek on this my RF rec has been a problem for a while I replaced the front door locks (from Emmotts) so not too costly and disconnected the blue wire they lasted 2 months before they were burned out the only way to do the job is replace the receiver with the newest version I am just peed off at the cost I know what I should do but extracting that cash from my pocket is proving hard

you will have alot of problem if you disconnect the blue wire ,, best is to disconnect the Aeriel ( antenne cable ) receiver cable on the rf receiver , the only negative is you don,t have a good radio receiver,,,

The only supplier is Land Rover, even Island 4x4 have to buy them from Land Rover ("at a discount of course") its called, "We have you by the short and curlies". now pay up..........

But as stated before, well worth the money, so to speak....

simply get a testbook man to switch off the RF and all will be fine. Never a fear of a door lock burn out ever again!.
I went through 4 before this fix.....AHHHHHHHHHHH:frusty:

I use the key in the old-fationed way and sleep better at night now also.

Ah ok, I'd have to check but maybe I disconnected a different wire. I did it back in summer and haven't had any probs.

The RF receiver aerial wire IS a blue wire.

Sometimes you have to let them find out for themselves anyway I will have to shell out after rebuilding the engine replacing the headlights and door locks and bloody tyres whats another couple of hundred quid

My Battery kept going flat, I used to park it unknowingly near a DIY weather station, wireless septic tank transmitter and of course every joe has wifi in my village.
i disconnected the ariel from the RF, got the car re synced and moved it too the front of the house. perfect for about two weeks, went out today after 48hrs of non use and the batts chuffin flat again.:mad2:

Will have to bite the bullit and shell the cash for a new RF.

This close to christmas could have done without!!! arghhhh!
