Water coolant level

Hi Guys,

I have a lovely 3.9 EFI Vogue Brooklands (for sale ) 90 k genuine miles, it runs perfectly with no issues and water temp is always spot on,

Been forced to use it more over the last week and on checking it over I noticed that the water coolant level was about half an inch above the mark ? The next evening after my journey (70 miles ) but with engine cold I checked again and level was about quarter of an inch below the mark. I feared that I was losing water but the following evening after another 70 mile trip I checked again and level was back to being half inch above the mark , Strange ???

Any ideas or can water levels vary from one day to another ?

Four hours after use the water is not cold. Check the level when it has been stood overnight.

Check for any (noticeable) pressure release when you remove the cap after an overnight stand.

Checked the water level tonight , 24 hrs after use and level was just slightly above the mark, there was a little pressure when I took cap off, is this a problem ?

check plenum heater. mine had been like this for a while, with a little pressure when cold. the plenum heater was blocked(full of ****e) and trapping a small amount of air in the hose I guess. removed, cleaned and re-fitted. sweet as a nut.

That is good. Should have a little sound means no leaks. Should be kind of like a coke bottle when opening

I'd agree that's about right, as long as it's not one that's been shaken first.
If you are concerned about head gasket problems you could get a garage to carry out a hydrocarbon test but (from experience) the results are not always conclusive.
