Loud "flick flick, flick"

hi guys

She starts up fine!

But, when I connect the new battery there is a loud and constant "flicking" sound like an empty pump working.

What could this be? It happens when the battery is connected and when the engine is running.

Depends how loud and where the sound is coming from

The sound is very loud and I can hear it over the V8....Can't pin it down though...left hand side of engine bay...hmmm.

Noises like Flick, Flick, Flick may occur when a strand has broken away from the fan belt.

Do you mean it happens at ignition switch p2 or only when the engine has fired?

No...I just need to connect the battery. I'm wondering if the battery needs a good charge up, as it has been sitting a wee while?

If you can test the battery or charge it up, I'd do that first.

Tryin to diagnose a noise on here is like trying to mime on a radio

Might be a manifold gasket blowing. Or better still the head.

Charged the battery up and the rapid "phuck, phuck phuck" sound is still there and louder than ever. Hmmm.

Why did you not spell it properly in the first place. That definitely sounds like a manifold gasket.

Re-connect the old battery and stop engine - problem solved No gasket blowing - guarantied
