Hi,

Has anyone any experience of using the ContiMobilityKit or the ContiComfortKit which pump in liquid latex, seal the puncture hole and re-inflate the tyre?

I believe these are now supplied instead of a spare tyre on Freelander 2.

How far has anyone driven before a 'proper' fix? (I know what it says in the instructions, but I think they are there so you can have no come-back on the manufacturer if you drive further)

Did you get a replacement bottle of latex cheap?

What do the tyre-fitters think of this gloop stuff inside the tyre?

These kits are on eBay at a fraction of the list price, but how do they compare with the well-known Holts 'Tyre-Weld' type of repair kit?

Thanks,

Singvogel.

these kits are in a lot of the new fords and mazdas. i work in a main stealer and i have seen a few tyres where the kits been used. one has a horrid vibration on it (i didnt know the customer had used the kit at this point) tryed balancing the wheel it wanted 100s of grams so i took the tyre off it was just like black silicone sealant sat in tyre theres not much point in using them in my oponion. youve got to vuy a new tyre either way so why waste the kit. the only time i would consider is if your sat at side of motorway.

I was thinking of one of these kits chiefly as an emergency for my wife who has a bad back and can't really manage to change a wheel any more.

So the odds of it ever being used are pretty slim, but it's more for my peace of mind when I'm away, if she gets stuck somewhere.

I accept that there's a chance the tyre may not be repairable, but can you fit the new tyre to the rim without too much hassle getting the gunk/goo off the rim itself.

Would a tyre dealer charge extra for cleaning the rim and /for having to cope with the sticky stuff.

hi I used these when the first come out as both me and wife suffer from bad back me i broke mine along with my neck and the sealent worked but when it came to a new tyre the tyre shop did not like it it took ages to clean off

I hate to see this type of kit in hire cars at work. They have warnings on speed on those I’ve seen. Also warn you to get the tyre changed as soon as.

I had that puncture repair stuff in my last set of tyres. I watched someone at a show use it. Spud the tyre round, hammered a 6 inch nail in with a pipe to guide it, spun the tyre, pulled out the nail, and nothing. No air loss. Hole was sealed. Later we went back and saw the same tyre with a hundred more “repairs” in it. You can probably see where this is going… The challenge was set. So when it came round to getting new tyres as I’d damaged them orf road (bulge and cracks) I got 5 new and chose to test the spare. Didn’t work for me.

I always thought it was against the law to take a car on the motorway without a spare replacement tyre/wheel. Is this true? Breakdown peeps list charges if you need a replacement and don't have one. Hence they're not happy with just the kit.
