MAF torx screws

Hi, After replacing the MAF on my Td4 I came across the stupid torx saftey screws for the first time! I Had to resort to butchery to remove them, does anyone know if there are any more of these screws on any part of the engine, sensors, etc. before I invest in a set of sockets.

Further to the above, what size is the security torx on the MAF's?

I have a set of these.

Slot 6mm. PH #1, #2. PZ #1, #2, #3. Torx 6, 9, 10mm. Tri-wing bits 1, 2, 3, 4mm. Spanner bits 4, 6, 8, 10mm. Tamper-proof hex bits 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6mm. Tamper-proof star bits T8, T10, T15, T20, T25, T27, T30, T35, T40.

What size is the tamper screw?

Thanx for the replys, the tamper proof screws for the MAF are indeed 5 pointed. The LR boys have certainly gone out of their way to stop us doing our stuff ! As a ten min. job turned into a 2 hr. marathon. The size of the bit required would be 5mm across. The wife said roverron has the 5 point bits for £10 (and had told me so but I did't listen). I am now going to get a set in case these fittings are on other parts of the FL.:doh:

You need mail and female torx/star sockets when working on the TD4 engine (needed them when changing the crankcase filter as had to remove the injector wiring harness).

Seem to recall using alan keys when I did my crankcase filter on the harness which were fine with no slippage; obviously not for the tamper proof type tho...

If you're buying standard stuff, ebay and pound shops may well have a cheapy option that'll do the job

The harness bolts on my TD4 are male headed torx bolts and not female, so allen keys would be no good. You could probably get away with 1/4" drive sockets as long as they are not too tight. The bolts on the filter housing are female so allen keys should work for these.

I used a small ring spanner to remove mine with no problems

I cut, with a hecksaw, a small slot on top of them and now I can use a flat screwdriver ?

Hi all just a update on the bosch anti tamper torx screws 2 of which retain the maf , the bosch part from a L R dealer includes a oval section of the ducting that the maf sensor is fixed to with said torx screws ,i found this out trying to get replacement torx screws from L R and bosch to no avail ! its only when you fit a pierburgh maf that does not come with the oval duct that you need the special 5 star torx bit with a hole in the centre to remove the maf from the duct

Join the club! No-one seems to know where to get spare 5-star security torx screws from.

I solved the problem with alternative screws but would still like to have a couple of the original type if possible.

That's exactly the set that Rover Ron includes with the Synergy and Pierburg kit.

What I'm looking for are the actual screws themselves, as I hacksawed slots in the originals to get them out years ago, before I got the Synergy2.

They are now a bit 'rough' and look like cr*p.

Who sells the 5 star screws?
