Swapping wheels/tyres

Hi.
My Defender 90 came with Boost Alloys and A/T Tyres. They are pretty good (See picture) but I have fitted modular steels and Insa Turbo Dakar Mud tyres. Is it really worth having an extra set of wheels/tyres?
I have been to Manchester, Castle Donnington and Birmingham (From London) with the mud tyres on and not noticed much vibration so I'm thinking of e-Baying the boosts and tyres.
Has anyone found real benefits of having summer/road tyres? I only have four modulars so would need a spare but five boost alloys could be converted into a snorkel/tree sliders or a CB!
Anyone want a set of alloys?

Personally I would sell the boost alloys, they would fetch a good amount of money to someone who wants them, if you don't really want them then there's not much point in you keeping them. As for the Mud tyres, I really don't care about road tyres being better on fuel or quieter or better handling , at the end of the day if a land rover is fit with road tyres then it's kinda pointless (unless your a hell of a driver ) I have 265/75 Cooper Discoverer STT Muds and my Defender manages 30-32 MPG no problem if I drive sensibly
I previously had 235 BFG A/T and the only difference I can tell is noise and handling, no difference in Economy that I can tell, and the noise or handling aren't unbearable, and plus I reckon Muds look better than A/T :biggrin1: Hope this helps mate

After 2 whole months with the steels and muds, and a few long journeys under my belt I think your'e right Dave. I will e Bay the alloys and tyres.
The mud tyres do make my 90 look kinda businesslike and I do take it off road so they will stay. Just need another wheel and tyre so I have a spare.

You could probably tell maybe a couple of mpg, but you could compensate that by driving a few miles an hour slower depending on the situation. After all Land Rovers were never built for economy or speed, and they still don't handle as well as a road car even if they have good road tyres, so you may as well stick with the muds
Also you should get a decent price for the boost's and modulars are generally easy to find, and easy to tidy up
