Ive got a 300tdi and am trying to find some information about the turbo hose. The 90 degree one going into the turbo is really soft but goes reasonably hard under throttle use. What difference does it make putting silicone hoses on. All seems to be working ok but had my pump tweaked a bit and all it did was produce smoke and no more power so for now I've had it put back to where it was. The guy who tuned it said that shouldn't happen. Any thoughts and help would be most welcome:eek:

I thought the silicone hoses just held there shape better, they don't expand as much as rubber ones, so lose you less pressure from your turbo. Also the rubber ones de-laminate eventually. I think.

Does that mean you get a better fuel air mix.?

Na, just the pressure is maintained from the turbo to the intercooler. I might be wrong though. But the do definatly wear out after years of use. I think the silicone ones have some use, but mainly only if your really specing it up.

Maybe I'll just change them for new standard pipes and see what happens.

Silicone pipes are generally for race use, they handle high pressures and temperatures better, it has lower heat transfer properties, it deforms less, its stronger and more damage resistant, has better air flow properties and weighs less. Its also easier to make custom pipework with it as you can buy all sorts of angles and sizes.

For most of the vehicles you see with it on there is no major benifit, the main reason you see it on road cars is for the looks or for fitting non standard parts...
