High revs

Hi.
Have a 98 p38 with LPG and having a problem with tickover speed on start up. It starts first time instantly no matter how cold it is but revs at about 2800 rpm in P or N. If I select R or D it drops to about 1200. When driving, if I have to stop I need to really push hard on the breaks or quickly select N or P. Any ideas? This has only been happening since the cold weather.Thanks, Steve

Same answer as last time you asked same question. Look at idle air control valve.

Get the codes read then only other thing i can think of. But that valve controls the high idle speed on startup. Does it drop back to normal when the engine warms up. Have you checked for split pipes connecting it and also for split vac pipes etc?

Hi, Yes it does drop back to normal after it warms up, but Im talking VERY warm (long after the temp gauge needle reaches normal straight up pos) Cant see any split pipes/tubes. Thanks for your advice. Will check it all again.

Hello. Well I've had the lot off including the aluminium flange thing that goes in to the manifold (a ring off holes) which the air idle valve seems to supply. Checked all the pipes/tubes for splits/cracks and tightness of joints. Had the Air idle valve appart and everything seems clean. I did notice that the mushroom shaped plunger will not move up or down but didnt force it for fear of doing damage. Is it supposed to move? Any ideas or comments?

Hello again.
I had a hell of a job finding an identical replacement air idle control valve but after fitting there is no change. However, I did notice that the sprung assembly that the throttle cable works was covered in gunge. So, out came the WD and after a bit of a scrub with a small paint brush it was all clean. Started the car and it ticked over at about 800rpm.
One press on the pedal and the engine went straight to 3000rpm and stayed there.
Pressed the linkage and it dropped back to 800.
Removed the top end of the throttle cable and found it very stiff/hard to move.
Anybody know how to remove/fit a new throttle cable? The top end is easy enough but I have removed the footwell cover panels and cant even see or feel how it is attatched to the pedal.
I am not a young fit nimble dwarf

WD 40 is not a lubricant, try some oil. RAVE should tell you how the change cable. V8 fuel system pages 37-38-39. Throttle cable renewal.
