Race on start up

Hi, My HSE 4.6 (97) starts first time every time hot or cold on petrol or gas. But, when it's cold the engine revs at about 2500rpm (sometimes more) in park. If I select drive or reverse it's a bit clunky and I have to press very hard on the brakes to stop it raceing off after releaseing the handbreak. As soon as it warms up everything seems to settle down and it drives normally. Anybody any idea what it could be?

Have a look at the idle air control valve.
