Merry Christmas all,
Got covered in oil, but at least the fresher 200tdi is in my Defender, Rad, intercooler and pipes back on tomorrow, hopefully have it running :)

just checked oil and fluids in correct places

Also tightened a few loose bolts and adjusted brake drums

All ready for a bit of laning tomorrow

Took mine to go and get the bread yesterday morning. The village was very busy. some clumsy fool who couldn't drive clipped the front bumper of my Defender while he was trying to do a three point turn. As soon as he saw me coming he drove off. I saw his front door which was all stoved in. Couldn't see any marks on the Defender.

Put all hoses on the new 200tdi engine and fired it up for the first time, My Land Rover lives again :biggrin1: The sound of diesel life is great

still full of turkey & pud, I pulled cold, old, overalls on to go look under landie as to find out why my disco 1 doosel was "steering" itself on a straight road.
much used still by daughter No. 2,
as her ford KA with bastid misfire ( another thread )
has not yet been sorted,
so good old dad/grandad has lost his disco re above!

So, engine running, dearest mum to kids sits just turning steering wheel from left clunk to right clunk
then left clunk the right and so on,
untill I see the steering box drop arm so loose it was dancing up & down with each clunk!

OK said I and went to fetch boxs of tools to fix the dancing drop arm..

never had a socket to fit ! (thought I did but?)
after bending back the locking tab washer with a chisel and hammer (ok, it worked),
I used my trusty snap-on, foot + half adjustables as tight as I could, then re fixed locking tabs both on the nut & flats on drop arm..
got mummy bear back to "wiggle" the steering wheel to see drop arm not dancing no more, but the adjoining ball joints of the steering bars begining to dance!

Ended up with a wish list to buy.
find or buy 34 mm ? socket,
steering box oil seal kit,
new drop arm nut locking tab washer,
both ball joints that run
from drop arm.

all wrapped up in some nice warm sunny days in which to fit them..

If i`m too late in wishing a happy christmas,
then I`m sorry,
If i`m too early to wish you a happy new year,

its a miricle....:D

checked tyre pressure and fluids ready to take herladyship out for a drive and found bloody great puddle of power steering fluid on the floor. oh well somat to play with this afternoon.
