Disco heated windscreen

I have a 51 plate Disco II GS, due to a cracked I managed to replace the front windscreen with a heated one. I inserted a relay under the bonnet and a switch in the dashboard. The switch does not seen to activate the relay, the relay does work as I have earthed the other side of the coil and volts go to both connectors feeding the elements. Looking at the circuit diagram it looks like the switch connects to the BCU and this outputs volts to the tell\tell led and an earth to the relay coil, but in my case it does not.....does anyone have any clues....do I need to upgrade the BCU.?

It is the correct relay? heated screens need a special relay in order for them to work correctly. Do a search as I know this issue has been raised and discussed before.
 
I just put in a yellow one, I know it takes lots of current, LR Aberdeen were unable to find a correct part number for it so I left them thinking about it.
I still think the problem lies around the BCU and or switch.....I also note I have 4 wires at the rear of my switch where the diagram has only 3 shown. ?

Thanks for all this, I did see the Landrover article the other day. I think there must a simple answer to my problem as all the wires,fuse's etc appear to in place.

I have found some info from a previous thread, BCU needs some work. !

The cables ought to be visible in the scuttle area with the bonnet open, a
"fixed" plug at either side of the vehicle. I take it you are aware that it
needs to go on Testbook or Rovacom or similar to talk to the BCU and tell it
that it now has a heated screen before it'll work?

Just jumping in because its abiut winscreens and I cant be bovvered starting a new fred. I noticed water coming in the passenger side roof lining next to the windscreen in the corner this morning. I thought it might be sunroof but dint think the water would go down there. I notice the front windscreen rubber isnt stuck to the bodywork above the screen - should it be? The corner rubber also is away and theres a gap so water can run along the gutter and into the space by the screen. Just wondering should I seal ALL the way along the top of the screen rubber between the rubber and the roof or just the corner.

Had similar problem after LR stealer re-spray (insurance job - not mine).
Just get some bathroom silicone sealer & fill in the hole, go as far as you want along the seal. did mine 2 yrs ago & it's still fine:welcome::)
 
Yip problem fixed, visited my frendly LR garage ( Greenbank 4x4 in Aberdeen ) and they plugged the laptop in and switched on the front screen, it would appear that most disco's have a lot of the parts fitted so you just need to electronically turn them on, ok you may have to fit fuses and maybe relay's that a little price to pay.
