hello all, great site.
cracking fun these defenders, mines being a 1999 td5 90
got a problem, can anyone shed some light?
side lights remain on. have checked the forum for the same problem but have had no luck with the suggested actions.
only disconnecting the battery works.
there is no dim/dip box, all relays and fuses have been diconnected too. mystery.
i mite try connecting 12 volts to the sidelights while isolating the main battery and see if i can find a leak elsewhere elsewhere in the loom.
any other ideas?

Sounds like that wouldn't work or else why would only your side lights stay on ;)

:welcome2:

I'd check your lighting switch first ;)
however
Seem to recall wires to and from Left head light can chaff not easy to get at cos of the windscreen washer bottle you may need to remove the headlight to get at them.

ok thanks landyloony.
i will have a wee look behind the headlight.
but the sidelights are getting power from somewhere even with the switch diconnected at the stalk and relay out. i have the whole dash off at the moment...a bit extreem but i cannot see any damaged loom.

also just wondered...if the wiring was damaged where you say behind the headlight, where would it get the power from to light all the sidelights.

Hmmm

Side lights have no relay ;)

Whilst you have the dash off have a good look at the multi coloured bits of plastic joining the loom together they're always good for a laugh if things have got a bit warm behind there.

I know mine went into melt down cos the numpty who fitted my spot lights wired em into the side light circuit

and No it wasn't me :D :D :D

i see, no relay! i unplugged them all assuming i would get lucky.
ok i will have a closer look at the wiring.
they are getting power from somewhere and its really frustrating. big learning curve coming up i think! dont want to put it in somewhere tho, want to sort it with a little (lot) of help from you guys.

You'll have a multimeter and electrical manual then? :D

try pullin fuses one by one to see what is what ,at least then you may have a direction to start in if it's been rewired buy someone in the past.

ok thanks.
yes got the meter but no manual yet cos ive only had the landy a few days!
brilliant tho, been climbing and playing in the mud.
pulled all fuses at the front and also under seat. still they stay on...dont believe it.
only way to kill the lights is to isolate the battery.
what you think?
