P38 radio and sat nav problem

Hi everyone I'm back for some more advice please! My radio in my p38 is code locked at the moment and trying to enter the number on the security card and the number supplied by the dealer is not working it keeps on going back to "wait" I am assuming that somewhere along the line my car has had a replacement stereo in and the codes supplied are incorrect so my next job is to take the stereo somewhere and have it decoded!
My 2 questions are :- 1) does anybody know of a cheap place local to south Birmingham who would be able to decode the stereo , it is the alpine head unit I don't have the model number to hand at the moment but it is the one with the tape unit and cd multichanger on! I have tried a number of online sites but they appear not to want to touch it cos it's alpine!
2) my sat nav unit ( factory fit) will not power up; could this be linked in with the non operating stereo or could it be something else? Does anybody have any ideas where I can start the faultfinding process please

Hi just an update on my woes and another plead for help!
I managed to get my alpine stereo decoded for £15 down in bearwood warley so that works fine now but the sat nav still refuses to power up! I want to try and work this out for myself and am planning to Download RAVE but can anyone tell me if this is compatible for the mac? I do have infrequent access to a windows machine but I would like to know if there is a mac version anywhere?

Has your SATNAV ever worked?
If not a common thing owners do is disconnect it as if broken it stops the stereo working. Check the back of the SATNAV disc drive in the boot to see if disconnected.
That was the only thing I learned from the wheeler dealer prog on the P38, rest of the show was ****e.

Don't know about the MAC and RAVE other than RAVE uses Adobe PDF reader, so if a MAC can use that anything is possible.

many thanks for your reply, i will certainly check out what you have told me regarding the connections on the back of the sat nav unit, i don't suppose you would know which fuse and where it would be that is for the sat nav?
i managed to download rave and got it to work in a fashion on my mac, but for the life of me i can't find a diagram or schematic showing what the various fuses are for, i even tried the search function and got thousands of pages which mention the word fuse

hi just another update
managed to extract the sat nav from the rear of the car and lo and behold the wires were disconnected!!! plugged it in but all that happens is that the orange light on the box at the rear flashes and when the ignition is turned on then the screen flashes white, does this mean that the sat nav is toast???
i do not appear to have a cd for the maps etc does anyone have a lnk as to where i may obtain a copy?

Lol, i once saw a recording for this, on wheeler dealers, try searching on youtube... he did / had exactly same issue.. the wires were disconnected once the satnav in the boot was extracted, his screen turned white, think he ordered new software from ebay?
