Thank you, thank you wammers, this is the way were were going and have also seen another thread about the 255 height reading that you replied to earlier - you said that this is either a duff height sensor or maybe it's even disconnected - hubby's just walked back through the door - we're going to go and have a look see if it's come undone connection wise and if not hot foot it onto fleabay to buy a new one. Thanks again - will come back to you again if needs be......

255 indicates an open circuit sensor, this can either be due to sensor failure or as Wammers said a corroded connector. Just had the same problem on mine, a thorough clean of the connector with contact cleaner sprayed onto a tiny piece of paper folded over the end of a piece of flattened wire pushed into the socket was what I ended up using before I got a good contact In my case the sensor was fairly new so the connector was the obvious cause.

Dont know if any good to you infrance but I have to select com port 6 on my laptop to get eas software to connect, had to look on RSW web site to find out how to find com port serial to usb converter was on!

Thanks for this will have another look as when we had to reboot the system again yesterday we took the pc out - pain in the proverbial although it works as we would be able to then just carry the laptop out. Hubby did a list of the serial ports on the back of here and none worked, will try 6 ..... If not, will maybe by a kicker to keep in the car for future use as even when we've got this problem resolved, it's bound to throw another wobbler at some time - ha all good fun!

Cannot thank you and wammers enough for all your advice. Hubby crawled under the car and the front left height sensor is pretty corroded. Front right less so and the two rear look fine. Will try cleaning it as above, but have been onto the Island 4x4 website and will get everything from there - are going to order up the valve block o ring kit in case we need this as well and a new exhaust silencer. Think the air dryer may be contaminating as keep finding dessicant in the exhaust silencer - if that is the case, should we replace that or is it another seal change. Taking things one at a time so hopefully by a process of elimination will get it all working as it should ........then onto the heater matrix o ring replacement - joy!

I got my "O" rings at a good price from Autoshelly and diapragm from symlise both on Ebay. If the dryer is ejecting dessicant, replace it. If you have a problem with doing your "O" rings, PM me, I have spare valve blocks, I'll do you a tested overhauled one on exchange.

Datateck you are a star - I think I shall add the air dryer to my shopping list for tomorrow. Have spoken to hubby, he thinks the idea of sending you our valve block for an exchange one sounds like an excellent plan - he's pretty happy to have a go at doing this, but your offer sounds like a much simpler and quicker idea - n'est pas! Think the air dryer is definitely shoving dessicant out as we have found it in the exhaust silencer and keep clearing it out - presumably it will therefore be in the block driver as well?!
