Checked my drivetrain after a run today (getting a whine from my new diff at 70mph..not loud but noticeable)..so did 12miles from work and when i parked up got straight out and felt around.

My new vcu and support bearings where cool....IRD very hot (as you expect-tis why it has a cooler plate!)

But the diff was quite warm..I could keep my hand on it but was starting to get uncomfortable.
I know they tend to get quite warm and thats why they are filled with oil.

Diff, VCU are brand new units...
Is this temperature normal guys?

(oh, new diff and prop mounts too )

Did you ever feel the temperature of the old diff? Is it actually running hot? Never tried stroking my diff but id imagine itd be warm by nature of what it does.

thats the problem - i never held my old diff in my palm and asked it to cough :p

I am aware they should get warm but would like to kow how warm...

if any of you could cup your diff after a journey it would be very much appreciated!

Just done 13 miles on back roads through countryside and delightful former mining villages and then stroked my diff. It was quite warm and slightly moist at the end ;-) ... I wouldnt say it was 'Hot' but its about the same temp as the middle of my back box to the touch or like bath thats on the point of being too hot but, still bearable. If that doesnt sound queer!

Its tolerable. I wouldnt if i didnt need to, same as the back box. Dont panic chief, if it starts sounding different, then worry! Run a V8 disco before now and any noise or knock on thems bad news! Service it well and itll be ok.
