I've got a Defender with a Dixon Bate towbar, and obviously this tows my Ifor Williams twin axle horsebox without issues.
However I just bought a Subaru Forester brand new and it came with a Witter towbar fitted.
The Witter towbar has a ball height of 42cm which is apparently the "European standard height" but the Ifor Williams has a tow ball height requirement of 52cm so we can't tow it with the Subaru.
Obviously I still have the Defender but my wife wants to tow with the Subaru. Nobody seems to be able to offer a solution, horseboxes all appear to need 52cm and the Witter/Subaru is 42cm.
is there any way round this? Does anybody sell a horse box with a lower tow hitch?

Have you checked the towing limits for the subaru. as It's unlikely to be within limits for a twin axle trailer loaded with an heavy horse?? IIRC foresters are limited to between 1500 & 2000kg depending on model.

You are correct it's on the limit for the Subaru really with one 450kg horse on board. The Subaru has a towing limit of 1800kg.

I realise we need to stick to the Defender for towing the Ifor Williams (1200kg), but I was looking at a lightweight French horse box that weighs 750kg.
However the tow hitch height is still 52cm on this one.
