I am looking to increase the security on my Defender 90 (1994). Reading this website has caused me to become very paranoid about my new toy going missing!
I have a disc lock already.
Can you get proper CAT1/CAT2 immobilisers fitted?
Also are door locks much of a job to change? When I bought the motor only one key was supplied and my growing paranoia is saying someone is out there with a key.
Any advice would be gratefully recieved!
The wife is getting sick of having to sleep in the back of it!!!!!!
Would leave my two german sheperds in the back but I would hate them to go missing!!!:D
 
Why don't you have a chat with Ryan here and get one of his GPS Trackers installed, The Great thing about trackers is you stand more of a chance to getting your landy back should it stolen, Plus you'll be able to track its whereabout online in real time, No fancy imoboliser or alarm can beat that.

Plus if they break into your car and the imoboliser kicks in, think of the damage a fustrated theif could cause you if he can't nick your motor.

Tracker is my fave and definately a must for your pride and joy, Ryans your man :D
 
Don't know about tracker. If some little chav wants to nick my motor I don't know if I want it back after it had been screwed round the local estates. I was more thinking if they can't get it off my drive I could introduce them to 80KG of German Sheperds until the local police get round. And you know how difficult it can be to get a signal sometimes! Woof Woof , Yum Yum !
 
Fit a steering lock or clutch pedal lock. Either that or if your handy with electrics a hidden kill switch. I fitted one from the ignition on mine, its just a little toggle switch underneath the dash. That would at least delay the buggers.

I have had 2 of these imobilisers from this guy on ebay... good value and do the job. They fit behind the speedo and a little steel button with a flashing LED fits nicely into steering column. Touch the button with the fob on your key ring and you have 30 seconds to start her up.

I got a local mobile auto electrician to fit... an hours work for him. Speak to your insurance first before buying and fitting any alarm or imobiliser...

im looking into getting a "toad alarm system" from what ive heared there actualy ment to take quite a big chunk off your insurance becasue there ment to be that good. they cost about £170 or maybe a bit more. i was reading on there site and they look like they have some impressive pices of kit there.

if theres anyone on here with a toad system feel free to let me know that they think of them :D

Ive got a Toad Thatcham Cat 2 Immobilser and Alarm.
Adrian Flux took £150 of my premium.
I didnt pay for the immobiliser so have no costs to recover, Win Win

AAAH! mate thats spot on! im deffo gunna have to be sorting my 90 out with a toad system. since you got the system has it done you proud, has anybody made the attempt to try and take you landy?

from what i was reading on the site it sold it well for me but you, good sir have confirmed it for me :) cheers
 
i fitted a toad ai606 to my defender, best thing i did the alarm works great and its really loud. I also use a disklock for added piece of mind. i would recommend both!

Perhaps, but I also have a pedal lock and a disklok fitted. I see the post as just another deterrant which might help to stop someone trying to winch it onto a truck. Ive also got a ground anchor and chain to wrap around the axel if Im away from home for a long time.

I have an immobiliser, it was an easy fit but I won't tell you how I did for obvious reasons. There are a few ways to do it but to be honest I could get around an immobiliser in 10 minutes cos there's no ecu.
The door locks are pointless, you can open them with spoons and all sorts.
A tracker is your best bet.

Ha ha, yeh your right, I dont let the missus drive it. She has a new company car that lives on the road outside our house, my 15yr old Defender gets pride of place on the driveway:D

I got my local auto electrical firm to install a Thatcham imobiliser when I bought it, because the insurance company insisted on it. So in total, I have the fatory alarm, Thatcham imobiliser, disklok, pedal lock, security post and ground anchor.

Im considering a Tracker as well, as soon as I can get a roundtuit:)
