As the title says, do the duel mass flywheels give the same symptom as a slipping clutch? I took my gearbox out and the clutch seemed to be slipping badly? But now looking at this duel mass flywheel maybe its that. Can they give that symptom? I can rotate it left and right about an inch each way then it stops. I am hoping it is ment to do this.. Thank you.........

It is, but not by hand, i think there should be considerable resistance in both directions and it should return to centre of it's own volition. The idea of a dual mass flywheel is to smooth out the sudden surge of torque when a cylinder fires, so that the vehicle can be driven at low engine speeds in high gears without rattling the transmission to death. A sort of cush driver if you will. Personally i think they are a waste of time. An item designed to make LUK rich and motorists poor.

knackered dual mass flywheels can give erratic idle and noises like thrust release bearing also

your know if dual mass is gone as normally there is a vibration in the clutch pedal an some movement left to right is ok its movement in an out thats bad if u hold flywheel at 9 oclock an 3 oclock an press down if it moves its knackered but when u come to buy the flywheel buy it for a bmw as its cheaper then if u buy for range rover even tho they the same flywheel
