Rusty nut an bolt removal

Whats the best method of removing rusty nuts and bolts?

I am getting ready to install rock sliders and I went under the truck last night to clean around the nuts and bolts. I can see that its gonna be lots o fun as they are very rusty.
I soaked all of them in WD40.

Do I need to get a grinder or something and just try and cut them off?

Chances are the nuts will just snap off as you try to undo them. and as long as they're not captive bolts or welded studs then it won't be a problem.

am a Plus Gas man, tis proper dismantling fluid - also a great fan of shear head off and drift out the remains (cheaper option)

if you want yer stressed parts to fall off

As long as you replace like with like in terms of size, it shouldn't matter that they are stainless.

there is a reason why HT bolts are used as opposed to stainless - go look it up

I was going to buy a bunch of SS nuts and bolts this weekend to change out.

they'll be fine for steps, doors, mirrors etc but they are way too brittle for use under stress - hence the majority of fixings will be HT

I take it you cant buy rated SS bolts then. never seen any, maybe thats why!

take a 2ft breaker bar and try to undo it. if it undoes, excellent, if it snaps, excellent you win either way.

the readily available SS fixings are usually A2-70 which are about 20% "weaker" than a HT 8.8 equivalents - the other issue with using SS fixings is their tendency to cold weld themselves together in certain circumstances
