I've had discos and defenders tricked up before but I love the freebie, it's just fun, great to drive, comfortable and hilarious to chase "proper" land rovers around off road - they get the right hump cos its not normal! :D

I agree completely - gives me more fun and satisfaction than anything else.

My work regularly takes me off-road in Bosnia, Kosovo, Albania etc. and the wise-guys with the huge knobbly tyres on Defenders and Discos get most upset when I meet up with them in 'inaccessable villages'. Those who don't know me insist on telling me my vehicle is 'inadequate' for the conditions - but I've been using a Freelander for over 10 years out there and haven't stuck yet.

It's also very much down to knowing your vehicle, as well as individual driving skills, as the locals can get most places in VW vans and old Mercs!

Don't forget that any numpty can get up a steep muddy hill in a Unimog - - I know - I used to have one.

Singvogel.

It's not caused me any probs! You have to do it properly tho, camber correction bolts are a must as is full four wheel alignment, plus you have to mod the inner wings for steering clearance. It's handling is pretty good, you can tell its lifted but it's still fun to drive. Off road it transforms it, I've now got more clearance than my d2!!

What needs doing to the inner wings?

Oh yes. 2" lift
Camber correction x4
Black modulars
225/75/16 mud terrains
Extended brake lines
Face lift
Genuine A bar
Spots
Bucket seats
Van interior
Poly bushes
Rock sliderz
Wind deflectors
Rear lights swapped top to bottom
Uprated bulbs
Re coloured interior
Roof bars
Roof rack
Water proofed engine
Uprated battery

To do list
Snorkel
Engine guard
Tank guard
Exhaust guard
Receiver hitch rear
Receiver hitch front
De mountable winch

Probably missed loads:)

Looks like you have spent a bit! Sounds awesome! When you say you have waterproofed the engine, what have you done?

Sealed the top cover on. I was sick of having to clean water and mud out of the plug holes which makes it miss fire. Worst day laning I had to do it four times:( not had to do it for months now and it's done some really deep water:) its got plug top coils so it's easier to do than one with a distributor!!
