Hey guys
Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Alex, im 22 and proud owner of a 2002 discovery td5.
I was left the car by my Grandad who sadly passed away this year, he looked after it like it was part of the family and I intend to do the same. I was always fascinated by it and always pestered him to let me have a drive (he never did) and it became my first car owned by me only (was only a named driver on the family micra before :) )

Its different for a 22 year old, all my mates have their boy racer cars, but i am into motorbikes for that kind of thrill, and i always loved big 4x4's. The reason it was left to me (apart from me and him being very close) was that he always took me to race motocross/enduro and the land rover pulled the bikes all around the country, he got me into racing and agreed that if I went for it he would take me to the meetings, and so he wanted me to carry on as normal still using the trusty landy to get me there :)

I really love driving it, I make excuses to go out for a drive! my only gripe is the low end power, it seems to hate any incline, it has been stood for a while when my Grandad became to ill to drive it, so i think a few parts may need a thorough clean but im unsure which parts? turbo etc

I plan on getting a decat pipe and blanking off the EGR, then maybe a dynachip remap, and consider what others suggest...

Anyway thanks for reading my story!

Hi Alex

Welcome, great to hear your disco has inherited another keen owner, sorry about your grandad.

There a few discussions going on at the moment about decats failing MOTs so have a search for this.

Cheers

Ah, thanks for the heads up

I'll have a look, i was already planning on putting the original one back on for the MOT just in case :D

Give it a good basic service, check all the hoses / pipes, water, air and the 'others' like steering ...

Sometimes a split hose from the turbo can cause the sluggishness or just a clogged air filter ...

By servicing it, you get to know the vehicle and what goes where and does what ... lots of advice on here ... have a read, many have had the problems you will come across ...

Take lots of piccys and have lots of fun ... :D

Welcome Alex, a great tale of one generation inspiring another. Sorry to hear he passed away.

Yes give it a full service, remember it is a 2 tonne car so will never be too sprightly. Personally, given some recent clarity on another thread, I would recommend not decatting the exhaust for MOT reasons even though you know it would let the engine run more efficiently! but thats a rant for other threads.

Make sure you inspect the rear chassis thouroughly if you tow as that is one of the D2 weak spots.

Thank you for the advice, i gave it a full service the day started driving it :D

I will have a look at the hoses, regarding the turbo ones. im afraid i dont think id know where to look  like i have had good look at the engine when i did the oil filter but didnt take much notice of the Turbo, is it just a case of a few hoses coming out that i could check/replace?
