hi all
this my first bmw freelander , last was rover engine
have the freelander a month, i have noticed on long drive over 2.5 to 3 hours mostly, while driving on motorway, seems to drop acceleration even with foot down, like it want to stop or something , i keep my foot down but i notice sudden loss in acceleration.
once i tryed to get more spped when it happened but wouldn't let me
its weird,,
i stopped for 15 mins and it didn't happen again for a hour
with it be a sensor like the maf
has this happened to anyone , if so, whats the fix
cheers in advance

Mine used to do the same, until I cleaned out EGR and intake, then done the mod to stop EGR working. Also change the crankcase breather. :)

new to this bmw stuff in a freelander
hadn't these probs with rover engine in my last freelander
but like the bmw power in the freelander
i blank off the egr , see if it helps,
if it doen't , then change the maf and get the non bosch one

Make sure you clean the intake manifold as well, your be surprised of the amount of carbon in there. There's a guide on here somewhere, just do a search and you'll find it. :)

will do, cheers
did you do blank bypass of egr or just do a clean

think i do the same, can't seem to find the superflow egr blanked bypass on ebay , so will go with whats there,,

If your not getting a synergie 2a box then you have to get the bosch maf sensor as nothing else with work. I brought a Lucas one as it was cheaper but it intermittent, worked sometime and sometimes not quite frankly it was dangerous. Pull off from one junction fine next junction maf not working and the car pulls out sloooowly. A bit worring when that happens when you have a car coming at you and you can't move quick enough.

I didnt use EGR blank, just disconnected it. But I would fit new gasket, if I did fit a blank. :)

i asked one of sellers on ebay and i was told they dont give gasket with egr blank and they said i use whats there, something about a o ring used with original and use whats with old setup

theres 18 euros difference between a egr with gasket and without
debating which one to get, maybe i can get one without gasket and try and source a gasket else where
also one with gasket says it stainless steel , where the egr without gasket is mild steel painted black, i could be wrong , but i don't see the black mild steel one rusting

just a little more info ,, while i'm waiting for few items to arrive
i seem to loose acceleration or can't accelerate which happened to me this monday on motorway when i was doing the speed limit of 120km , was driving alng at this speed when i noticed if wanted to pickup more speed to pass out , it wouldn't, like something was holding it back, so i drop speed and tryed again and i couldn't get back to speed i had , so i stayed at 100km for couple mins and tryed again and then i could go back to 120km, its weird

try changing the turbo vent filter
http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/what-pipe-filter-191367.html

if it's clogged up .. the turbo will not operate correctly

read thru this as well .. ( related )
http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/td4-lack-power-70mph-fixed-77147.html

also change the pcv ( crankcase breather ) filter ..
if it's not been done ..
or fit the bmw replacement modification
http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/bmw-crankcase-breather-170050.html

btw: the egr gasket can be obtained at a LR dealer ..
although if the old one is not damaged .. should be ok to re-use it ..
