I absolutely would not be putting that stuff in any vehicle I own. HG failure is rare on the TD4 so I'd definitely be doing more investigation on where the leak might be first. Compression test first, and if that's okay, have a look at other possible components like the various coolers etc.

The glass is bonded to the frame that rusts. New ones are now upwards of £400. You might get lucky with a good one from a scrapper though

The fluid check MUST be done with the engine running and the box suitably warmed up. Doing a level check with the engine off will result in an amount of the required fluid draining out.

I have finally got to the bottom of this one. A combination of the garage that originally did the autobox change and actually underfilled the box, rather than over filling it, and me subsequently following the incorrect procedure for checking the fluid level resulted in the box being about 2lts...

All LRs are money pits, but that's part of the joy of the owner experince. I would follow the advice of others though and get the codes cleared and see what comes back. Check the multitude of threads on here about VCUs. The prop will have been removed to either prevent damage to the transmission, or because damage has already been done to the transmission.
