Beast: getting there bit by bit.

Light guards fitted, having a tap n die kit is handy sometimes. Nice, clean engine for her age, now minus an EGR. Sound proofing before (after a wash though) It's the little details...

    Should it be oily?

Ok folks, today I fitted my EGR blanking kit and to make life easier I removed the airflow valve and the intake hose to the turbo... both were full of a black, oily substance (presumably oil) which doesn't seem right to me so I figured I should ask.... Should that oily crap be there? I...

    Turbo hose

hey folks, replacing some bits on our engine (disco ES) and while I can find the intercooler hoses and so on what I am not seeing is a replacement for that horrid ribbed turbo inlet hose, anyone know if there is a silicone replacement for that or do I have to suffer it ;)

    Buy from Alexr with confidence.

Sorry this is not strictly for sale post but I feel I must sing some praises here for Alexr. A good while ago I paid for a pair of 300tdi bumpers and a pair of wing mirrors for the same but they never arrived, long story short they were signed out by ****tyLink but never returned to depot and...

    A lick of paint...

A lick of paint goes a long long way, goodbye nasty grey plastics, hello shiny black and youthful! Makes her look a totally different car! :jaw:

    How to test alarm?

Ok, I may be making some big assumptions here but I'm pretty sure our alarm is original, sonic sensors inside, flashes after locking and so on so what would be the best way to test it? I figured locking it with a window open, setting the alarm and then sticking my arm through the window may...

    Manston Air Show

Anyone know which group it was that was displaying a bunch of Landys? We're local, enjoying our Disco 1 and looking to share the love but can't for the life of us remember which bunch it was (it was a long day)

    Disconnected stuff...

Just thought I would share that as I have been going through some of the switches and stuff in our Landy, a lot of stuff thought to be broken was simply disconnected from the back of the switch, such as the rear window switches not working because the isolator switch had been disconnected...

    Stiff auto shifter

Ok folks, got the big blue beast back from our local specialists, all MOT'd up and raring to go but they have pointed out that the shifter is stiffer than it should be (which we suspected, it moves but requires a bit of effort). They took the cable off and it moved fine, checked it etc and...

    Paints

Ok folks, not got a lot of knowledge when it comes specifically to car paints, Industrial Solvent Oil Based Paint LAND AND RANGE ROVER 602 OXFORD BLUE: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike can I paint that onto my landy via the roller method? Or does someone have a better recommendation for paint? I am...

    Give me tasks!

Ok, following on from another thread I will be fitting a reversing camera to always be on, will be fitting this to the 12v lighter line and doing it properly (so removing center console etc) What I want y'all to do is give me a list of jobs to do that require the center console out to do so...

    Discovery 300tdi ES fog lights

Hey there folks, anyone got a pair of original fog lights that they have removed or are removing? Our disco won't see much offroad action but will cover plenty of foggy motorways and Ebay has been a "no luck" situation unless I want tacky aftermarket ones which doesn't really fit what we're...

Have you ever been so tired...

Thought this may amuse some of you lot... Our disco is in for MOT tomorrow so yesterday I did lots of tidying and bits n pieces, ended up so tired that I got back to the front door and spent a few minutes pressing the unlock button on the fob to try and open my front door... Eventually...

    Rear view camera.

Ok, picked up a rear view camera as the in-law wasn't so happy about rear visibility (kids walking out and so on, I can see her point). It's all simple enough, attach camera and monitor, run video wire then hook it into the 12v wiring, my question is where would be best? Our has the...

    Noises...normal or not?

Ok folks, did a decent run in the disco today and loved every second but there were two noises standing out that may be perfectly normal...or may be something to get checked so here's the question: "normal or not" 1: Howling on smooth roads under acceleration/high speed. The howling drops when...

    Ignition help!

Ok folks, the landy has been working fine since we got her but has been sat still for a few days with me doing some bits on her. This morning we wanted to take her out but the engine wouldn't fire which I put down to a possible glow issue because we're not sure when she was last serviced. As...

So folks, what do we make of these kits?

Discovery Mk 1 FLOFLEX Polyeurethene Bush Kit I've trawled enough to know the potential benefits and that fitting is likely to involve a lot of swearing and quite likely some bleeding but what do we think, worth it?

    Wheel repainting - colour?

Ok folks, continuing on with touchups and so on would anyone know exactly what paint colour is used on the wheels? It is some kind of mid-dark grey and needs touching up just to tidy things up. (really need to remember to note my paint code for the body...sigh, I guess you all understand the...

    Conversion...possible? Easy?

So...while I have been spending a solid amount of time looking for all the little bits and bobs to basically bring the 300tdi ES back up to scratch (pretty much trying to put her back to factory standard-ish for the moment) I couldn't help but wonder... was the TD5 just a facelift? Is taking the...

    She's home!

So she's home, technically not mine but I'm gunna be doing most of the work on her and once I have my licence I will be on the insurance. She is every bit as tidy outside as she looks in that picture, 174k on the clock, no apparent offroad use as we are in a seaside area so she should be...
