Right then,I've checked the little pin in the pump and it was fairly stiff to move in and out,so I squirted some lubricant in there to be on the safe side and worked in and out a few times, and it moves now with little effort,I've checked the turbo spins freely and it does but it's no fidget...

I've read that too about cutting the rod but that was to achieve 1bar -1.2bar ,It's a new gauge so doubt it's faulty but you never know,what does yours say it's boosting at?

Checked all hoses and clips and all ok,Yes it drives fine,you can feel the turbo come in and it holds boost,and no smoke,apart from the black cloud on start up,I just thought it should be putting out a bit more with the actuator rod at it's shortest and uphill is comical . Thanks
