300tdi weird transmission noise while coasting.

Never got a chance to check oil in diffs which I think will need changed anyway ( any recommendations for dif oil/fluid) . What I did find was the bolt was loose on the axle end of the trailing arm . I had play in n/s swivel, and track rod was loose at the adjuster rod. So tightened everything...

300tdi weird transmission noise while coasting.

Hi all, went off roading on Sunday with a cracked propshaft coupler ( doughnut) but had a new genuine replacement in boot So just went for it. The doughnut held up remarkably well so I thought as I returned to tarmac. But vibration at first getting rid of excess mud from places. Then loud thunk...

300 tdi - cold starting problem

Yeh same here , has been happening for a while but this morning was the worst , and noticed disco was parked up hill as aposed to normally down hill. So definitely a fuel draining back to tank issue , but where to start? It starts with a diff of the key all day long after that even after a few...

So really as intended. but really want something newer and nicer fir the family to travel in and...

The joys of discovering your Discovery!

I take it you have checked the rubber doughnut as in my experience (On my 5th) that goes first an gives similar symptoms as mentioned and a lot easier and cheaper to replace than the above. The age of Disco 1's now , I see the many little things needing done as much as restoration as maintenance...

Considering Discovery 3 2.7 diesel what are known problems

I'm sure I used to read similar stories of woe about the disco 1 then the 2 now the 3 and no doubt the 4 as they pass down the line. my car constantly needs things and is a disco 1. currently the door springs have went again and has spider issues and a weird dim left headlight , sticking boot...

    Boost Pin

I've done the fuel pump mod bar the final one on the back of the pump. I've had great results all round from this apart from a bit smoke and running a little rich. But good power, torque and mpg. I'm interested in this pin but I think it performd most of the same function s as the mod albeit...

Anyone ever tried upgrading heater controls on a disco 1 to the disco 2 digital ones

Yeh I m thinking it could be a bit far fetched and have plenty to be getting on with , what with my immobilizer playing up, and starting when it feels like it. Passenger door spring gone, and boot handle deciding to stick . So perhaps this is one for the rare days for when you can concentrate in...

Anyone ever tried upgrading heater controls on a disco 1 to the disco 2 digital ones

Thebiglad- so much for cheap to replace 50-100 quid for that wee pack. Although weirdly I have seen the whole fan units with the what looks like the pack still attached for about 20.

Anyone ever tried upgrading heater controls on a disco 1 to the disco 2 digital ones

Yeh this deffinately my problem, but as said just wondered if an upgrade was possible for a wee upgrade. Long shot I know. I would be more confident if I could see the back of a d2 heater control compaired with a D1, that would make or break the idea. The mondeo I have dine previously despite...

Anyone ever tried upgrading heater controls on a disco 1 to the disco 2 digital ones

Hi my heater fan control switch is a wee bit dicky, that it cuts off , and I have to move it ever so slightly to get going again, and pretty sure I don't have 3-4 on the settings I.e. all or nothing. Anyhoo, I converted a mondeo from manual to digital heater controls before and wondered if it...

    EGR blanking

As said, kit cheap enough. You could retain for nostalgia, but every diesel I have ever had eventually gave problems with the egr so by passed and through away every time.

    Disco 1 or Disco 2?

I have disco 1 and looking to upgrade to a 2 or perhaps 3. What puts me off is the fact I can repair the 1 myself and cheaply. And I can still drive 100's of miles in comfort to a pay n play site, kick it's butt. And drive home again . I go to the tip, with the house/ garden rubbish without...

Mid box silencer or straight through

I am straight through with de cat but kept the rear silencer. I have found as some , that the 300tdi likes a little back pressure in the low to mid range. Suttle but there. Mine makes a nice noise, not too loud until I floor it then it sounds mental. But bearable on motorway and day to day.
