NEW Defender (2019) - some close ups

Nice.. so it’s not just a camo wrap is it, they’ve stuck fake panels on too. I guess to disguise the final shape as well as contours.

Anyone else getting fed up fitting new 'broken parts'

For parts I can vouch for www.brit-car.co.uk. You can choose from genuine, oem or pattern when you buy. Very useful. My rule is generally; if it’s oily it is genuine or it moves it is oem, everything else is pattern.

Finding TDC with the wrong flywheel

Hi, yes. I kind of ignored it until I took the front timing cover off. When I saw the timing marks all line up at front I was less worried about the flywheel.

    SOLD: Defender Slickshift for LT77/R380

They're lovely. I'm putting one in a Puma too. Reduces the throw of the gear stick to make changing gear less like rowing a boat. Taking it out as the ol 90 is up for sale soon.

    SOLD: Defender Slickshift for LT77/R380

I guess it would work on any LT77, but I don't know if the RRC lt77 is any different to the fender one

    SOLD: Defender Slickshift for LT77/R380

Before I stick it on fleabay, does anyone want my nearly new Defender slickshift? http://www.onlinegearboxparts.com/product/defender-lt77-slickshift/ It was fitted to my ex-mod 90 and did about 50 miles before it sat in the garage for the last year; so nearly new, in original box with fittings...

    quick re-bushing question

Equal both sides, or you run the risk of the bush rubbing on the supporting bracket. Unlikely to cause much damage, but looks shoddy at MOT time.

    Daily Nickings

It's not just defenders, it's all sorts. Even things like Veedub campers and old scoobies. Last year the most nicked top ten list looked like this: 1) BMW X5 2) Mercedes C-class 3) Range Rover Sport 4) Mercedes E-class 5) Land Rover Discovery 6) BMW M3 7) Range Rover 8) Audi RS4 9) Mercedes ML...

replaced vacuum pump.. Now it won't start

Righto chaps, just popping back to say thank you for all the assistance. In between work and baby sitting (or parenting as my wife calls it) commitments I've managed to get everything back together, and fired the engine up. All is working well now, after new timing belt, 8 new pushrods and a...

replaced vacuum pump.. Now it won't start

Thanks, yes I've got the window, just no markings on the flywheel itself IIRC. I'll check again in the daylight tomorrow.

replaced vacuum pump.. Now it won't start

Gotcha, thanks. I'd expect the crank pulley marker will be on the money anyway, as that shouldn't have changed. I'll take a look in the daylight and report back. Thanks for your help JM

replaced vacuum pump.. Now it won't start

I'll double check, certainly no EP marking. If it is a slot, would I line that up with the pointer in the window too?

replaced vacuum pump.. Now it won't start

Yeah,,but without an EP mark on the flywheel.. How can I tell when I'm at EP?

replaced vacuum pump.. Now it won't start

I've got the "pointer window" on my bell housing. Is lining up the mark on the crank pulley with the arrow casting on the timing case the same as using the flywheel then?

replaced vacuum pump.. Now it won't start

Hmm as I thought, the lack of EP or TDC mark on my flywheel could be a problem. For some reason I must have a later flywheel, and can't even remember seeing a slot. Guess if there is a slot it'd still line up with the timing marker, or would it be the drain plug on the bottom, as per later MY...

replaced vacuum pump.. Now it won't start

Righto thanks. I've done that but wanted to make sure. I noticed the crankshaft makes more than one revolution for each Rev of then fuel pump cog, so thought there might be a 'sequence' but perhaps not. Cheers all

replaced vacuum pump.. Now it won't start

Hi chaps, I'm just getting round to putting this all back together. Regarding the timing, is it just a case of turning the camshaft cog round to the timing mark, or does it need to turn through more than one revolution? I'm guessing it slipped by about 90-120 degrees, so I'm not sure if the...
