Lakes Rob's 1963 series 2a - and so it begins!

I think my balls have seen better days! However, rubbed down the front axle and gave it a coat of buzzweld - rust control primer and chassis in one top coat.

Lakes Rob's 1963 series 2a - and so it begins!

Nearly finished disassembly! Original plan of changing the oil and a lick of paint went out of the window then! Decided to cut the roll cage out. Any want it - it's yours for nothing! Managed to acquire a second hand bulkhead in good nick for £180 so it seemed a shame to hack it bits to fit...

    New Galvanised Bulkhead

I was thinking of sending my 2a bulkhead to Ashtree but this is the second thread I've seen (the other was on a Facebook group) that's put me off. The other place I was considering is Land Rover Refurb in Yorkshire. Does anyone have any experience of them or anyone else - before I part with...

Lakes Rob's 1963 series 2a - and so it begins!

Only managed 3 hours today - but just got master cylinders, steering and windscreen to take off and then the bulkhead can come off! The drivers side is as bad as the passenger side so, since we've taken it this far, a new bulkhead it is then!

Lakes Rob's 1963 series 2a - and so it begins!

Managed a few more jobs today. Near side wing off to see the state of the bulkhead. Thinking it might be better in the long run to just replace the whole bulkhead rather than repairing both sides! Engine out as well and removed all the wiring. The inside of the bell housing is fairly filthy...

Lakes Rob's 1963 series 2a - and so it begins!

Did a bit more today. Got the floor and seat box out to reveal the gearbox. Two questions - shouldn't there a cover plate on the bellhousing, and what do these numbers mean on the end of the gearbox? There's no other serial number on there. Took the canvas off - very rotten, so that's going in...
