Sounds like your new cables are damaged as you have to be very careful when refitting the cables and they are kept very tight and not twisted at all. If they become twisted as soon as you power the regulator up it will damaged the new cables. If the new ones make a grinding sound they are...

I break Freelanders and have done so for the last two years with an ebay shop and based near Stoke on Trent if anyone needs anything.
