Yh new starter. A faulty one will drain the battery and never spin the engine properly. Put a new one on mine 2 weeks ago after symptoms like yours and starts like a dream now.

I had this noise for about 3 months after buying the car untill the fan belt belt snapped. Replaced the belt and it instantly snapped the water pump pully off. Guess the tension of a new belt was to much for it. I'd say your on the right track looking at the pump. Its a straightforwad...

You would be suprised how deep the water can get on some lanes mate. Ive seen lanes become impassable to cars without snorkels and wading stuff. I agree you don't need one though as long as your carefull. Personally the most usefull thing Ive ever done is fit a decent rear Work/reversing light...

I bought the Hi Lift off road kit and it's really worth the money as long as you have 3/16 chain for it to work along. It makes winching about 100x faster and comes with everything you need except the chain. Including some sweet gloves :D
