Advice please on possible cooling fault

Hi, Well the garage think it is the head gasket but a) they didn't seem sure and b) they quoted £1000 for the job. Having done some research it would seem that I now have two options. 1) Do it myself. I've looked at the various postings regarding this and it doesn't look impossible and would...

Advice please on possible cooling fault

Downloading a copy of RAVE Looks like the system with the thermostat in the hose. There is definitely water circulating as there is a constant flow from the pipe into the expansion bottle. The fans kick in but it is almost like they are to late. Getting warm air from the heaters so...

Advice please on possible cooling fault

Been trying to bleed system, getting air coming though but only in small amounts. I don't seem to be getting very far. I've also noticed that the top hose on the radiator is hot but very soft, doesn't feel like there is much pressure in there. Is this normal? Think I may have to admit defeat...

Advice please on possible cooling fault

Thanks for the tips. Doesn't seem to be any other symptoms to indicate HGF. Are the DIY sniff test kits any good, I don't really trust garages that much? The pressure is coming from the coolant boiling and then eases of when the fans kick in and it cools down. Doesn't seem to be a build up...

Advice please on possible cooling fault

Hi, I have a 2001 1.8 (yes, I know) and have a concern regarding the cooling. I've searched the forums and am none he wiser. The engine heats up. Then, after a while the epansion tanks fills right up as it gets really hot and starts to leak from the top. The fans then kick in and it all...

    Drive shaft - help please

Hi, I have a leak which looks like the oil seal has gone between the rear diff and the drive shaft. Having spent most of today dismantling the rear I noticed that the shaft seems to slide in and out of the CV joint (I think that is what it is called) nearest to the diff. The gator is intact...

    Diff Advice

Well I've dropped off the prop shaft and vcu (very easy job, apart from a bl&@£ nut holding one of the vcu brackets to the car) and it seems to have cured all the symptoms. Going to take another look at the diff tomorrow and figure out what to do. Will definitely change the mounts as they look...

    Diff Advice

Hi, Thanks for that. I have done quite a lot of reading, there is so much info on here it is brilliant. The three main symptoms I am getting are; 1) car feels like the brakes are on the whole time, not just at low speeds. 2) a terrible grinding noise and vibration from under the car...

    New Freelander owner

Hi, Having owned a Discovery Series II, a Disco 3 (which I used for off roading) and a RRS I really wanted to get something which I could really get my hands dirty. Defenders were just too much money, those in my budget generally came in several pieces, all with a nice cooper colouring ;-) So...

    Diff Advice

Hi, I've had two Discos and a RRS and enjoyed mucking about with them. This time I wanted something I could get a bit more hands-on with so purchases an old (2001) Freelander. Engine and body work is good. Drive system, not so good. I'm about to drop the prop shafts and VCU off. Before doing...
