Thanks, very useful (but sounds expensive!!). It all worked perfectly this morning but when I got home after the school run it wouldnt lock with the remote (so the symptoms are not exactly as described). I left it for 5 minutes and it locked and unlocked normally again.

Thanks Ratty but its not a range problem. It will work fine one day (from 20 yards) and not at all the next. It's very frustrating as the truck wont unlock / start when you need it most. Should have bought a Toyota!

My 2003 with the 15P engine filled its sump with oil. Fortunately it didnt reach the runaway stage. The engine was replaced with the older 10P engine which has been running well since. As the 10P is an older engine I would imagine there would be more occurances but as the 15P engine ages it...

My TD 5 has just developed the exact same problem. It is the same with both key fob's but seems to be related to moisture and or cold as it only appears to happen on wet mornings after the vehicle has been driven.

Being a typical male the last thing you do is look in the manufacturers hand book. Anyway, we eventually did that this weekend and 3 chimes after start indicates an ABS failure. There is no mention in the handbook of the 2 chimes I sometimes get??? I'm going with the "hello" theory previously...

3 chimes is normal: I never used to get any chimes, then my 15P engine was changed to a 10P one. Now I sometimes get 3 chimes after start, sometimes 2 and sometimes none. Is there any logical explanation for this? Thanks Gazza

I finally have my car back with another 2nd hand engine fitted. It runs well with no stange noises but they didnt get any paperwork with the engine. Is there a requirement to notify the DVLA after a engine change?

I guess the old engine (cracked head - diesel in the sump) will be the property of the dealer as they are paying for the replacement engine.

And now they have put a dent in it! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

As I say, the dealership I bought the vehicle from are replacing a failed engine with all they can find on Ebay at present (10P), hence my concern about the compatibility. 10P's also seem cheaper. I doubt they even know there are different models. Thanks for the reply. Gary
