    300 TDi fanbelt tensioner

Well, I got a new entire tensioner today and it was chalk and cheese ! Only took 3 mins tops to fit it and the belt, the new one does revolve around 90 degrees and, as Lynall says, using just a 3/8 socket ratchet. So I'd say Mr Chaffey's 600mm bar is unnecessray unless the thing is semi-seized...

    300 TDi fanbelt tensioner

I'm finding it impossible to get the belt back on the pulleys, and suspect it might be the tensioner that's seized, or almost. Took it off and put it in the vice; with a crowbar it won't rotate more than 4 or 5 mm at the outer edge of the pulley -surely it should move more than this ?

    Bulkhead swap 300TDi Defender

Yes, you're probably right ! We're on the Wales - Shropshire border, near Montgomery. Galvanised chassis.

    Bulkhead swap 300TDi Defender

Many thanks for that, Phill. Mmm, 60 hours - that's I suppose a solid week and probably more, and of course you'll probably find some "whilst I'm at it" jobs too. I might see if I can come up with someone who can do it at a decent rate, rather than a garage charging £45 or so + VAT per hour...

    Bulkhead swap 300TDi Defender

Hi Guys, Having just completed the resto of an 86", next in the queue is replacement of the Defender bulkhead and got a warm-climate rust free one ready to paint. Question is, whether to have a go at it myself or farm out the job? Anyone any idea of the hours / pitfalls for a reasonably...

    Defender V8 Efi

Hi everyone, I've come across a V8 Efi engine that supposedly came out of a Defender, but was there ever such an animal? Thought they were all on carbs, so more likely out of a R/Rover or Disco, perhaps?

    Starter relay

Thanks, guys. I'll try your suggestion, GMACZ, sounds a good 'un. It did happen a few months back, but fortunately I was able to run downhill to start it, and it never happened again until now. On turning the key, there's definitely no voltage to the small solenoid terminal but, as I said, touch...

    Starter relay

Same problem on a 300TDi. Relay clicks, glow-plugs work ok. As GMACZ suggests, hot wiring from starter solenoid small spade terminal to any + ve will engage starter and off she goes. Swapped relays over and no difference - there are 3 below the fuses which appear identical. Can it be anything...

    Door cards post-2007

I was moaning a few weeks ago that, whilst a million firms do early door cards, nobody did the later ones for the all-steel doors. Well, they do now ! Well done, Gareth: http://defenderupgrades.co.uk/

    300 TDi immobiliser

Yes, tried drilling out the rivets initially but they soon started just spinning round so like you, Kwakerman, had to resort to the angle grinder. I'll perhaps have a go at re-soldering the connections once the long nights arrive. Meanwhile, the eBay bypass gadget arrived today and was duly...

    300 TDi immobiliser

Well, I've just had a look at the box and it seems just possible that I might, at least until now, have had the last surviving spider ! I could see no sign of a bypass plug, and indeed the box is still riveted together apparently per original. I'll take it apart tomorrow if I get chance and...

    300 TDi immobiliser

Thanks again. Yes, had a look in the battery box and there is indeed a black box on the forward-most side. Cannot see the others without removing the dash trim, but assume they're there. So do you think this bypass gadget will get me out of the hole ? At the moment I can't use the Landie as...

    300 TDi immobiliser

Many thanks. I just assumed that it was aftermarket, so will check under the dash. Are you saying they were a standard fitment (mine's 90 County) ? Never noticed anything in the battery box, though.

    300 TDi immobiliser

Hi Guys, Our '96 Defender has a (presumably) after-market immobiliser / alarm. Yesterday it took it into its head to go off of its own accord - wasn't set and keys weren't in the ignition. Fortunately it was just at home. Only way to stop it was to disconnect the battery. Going back to it...

Late Defender door card source ?

Ok, thanks for those tips, Foxy !

Late Defender door card source ?

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Not just duff - non-existent ! I've converted the 300TDi to later type all steel doors, but unfortunately they didn't come with trim panels. Foxy, do you have a link to all parts ? Googling doesn't seem to come up with anything. Thanks

Late Defender door card source ?

There seem to be any number of sources for door trim panels for the older type doors, but none for the one-piece Puma type, other than by paying massive amounts for factory ones. Any ideas, anyone ?

    Save the defender petition!

It needs to remain modular Yes, and I've been wondering what those such as electricity companies will do to replace those special bodied Landies. IMO an expanded Discovery lineup (with pickup, chassis cab etc) should have replaced it in 1989 Other than 'replaced' I couldn't agree more, Pete...
