Early series 2 water pump question

Standard on later vehicles, something like 62 on, is nine bolt, military is seven bolt and the early ones (58-62?) are indeed eight bolt. Based on my experience, I believe that it's almost impossible to find a new pump and a rebuild is the only way. I managed to find a rebuilt unit for mine as...

Other Car SOS this Thus Landrover Special.

Total waste of time. Don't think that I will bother with the second part.

    Series swb rear tub

Update on progress. All of the panels and sundry painted parts have now been dry fitted and sent off for preparation and paint. The bodyshop have done a superb job on the parts that have been completed to date. The tub was in epoxy primer last time I saw it and it was looking very good, far...

    Series swb rear tub

I have replaced the floor, underfloor crossmembers, rear crossmember and rear quarter panels on mine using rivets where it came with them and a very strong structural adhesive where the original structure was spot welded. The adhesive is the same product that is used in the construction of...

    Discovery 1 windscreen replacement.

200 series is rubber glazed and 300 is direct glazed with trims around the outside of the glass. 200 doesn't have the silk print band around it which provides a key for the urethane and also excludes UV from the urethane on the direct glazed type. Two types of 300 screen, one with a mirror boss...

Other what have u done on ur disco today

Continued to dismantle the back end to clean the chassis down and treat it. Rear axle and all the associated bits that bolt it to the chassis removed. Bump stops fell apart as expected. Exhaust removed and now the chassis is much easier to access.

Disco 2 Road noise coming from O/S rear door

Have the felts around the drop glass dropped to leave a gap at the top? Not unusual for this to happen. Drop the window and pull the felts back into place with a pair of long nosed pliers.

Other what have u done on ur disco today

Thanks Brian. I have Rave on my laptop already thanks. The wiring seemed to be a mess last time I had the radio unit out but I hope to sort it out. I suspect that the Clarion unit currently fitted has the outputs that I need. Plenty of time to play with it whilst it's off the road for the rest...

Other what have u done on ur disco today

This week, I have started on a long list of jobs that has been building up for several months. The back strip down was finished today and the chassis steam cleaned; there's surface corrosion but nothing worse. From the back: Remove boot floor to replace fuel pump and feed and return pipes as...

Disco 1 Front inner arches. Aluminium?

If they are non- structural, why are they an MOT fail when corroded? The MOT station said that the front body mounts are the issue with corroded inner wings. When I first bought my 95 Discovery six years ago, it failed on corrosion on the inner wings. Some welding had already been done in the...

Disco 1 3.9 EFI idle problems

Thanks for the breather suggestions Discool. I cleaned the breather on the offside rocker box and it seemed to resolve the problem ..... until the hot weather disappeared and then the intermittent cold and hot start up idle problem came back. I checked everything again, fuel pressure, fault...

Disco 1 3.9 EFI idle problems

I have just checked the ignition module and, as you said, it's beside the coil rather than bolted to it. I have checked to operation of the idle control valves and both of them work in the same way in that they both extend when the engine is started and retract when it is shut off. I took your...

Disco 1 3.9 EFI idle problems

Thanks for the response. The base idle has never been touched and 99% of the time, the vehicle idles around 700rpm. it's the cold start and hot start idle immediately after the engine fires that is the problem. Breathers and hoses have all been checked. I think that the ignition module is...

Disco 1 3.9 EFI idle problems

Apologies in advance for the long post but lots of detail necessary. I am looking for some suggestions as to where to go next with a minor problem with my 3.9EFI Discovery 1 please. It’s completely standard with no modifications. I have had the vehicle for five and a half years and covered...

Other what have u done on ur disco today

Bought a Hawkeye Total and 14CUX lead for my 95 3.9EFI which proved to be a very worthwhile investment. To my amazement, only one fault code found which seemed to be historic but a problem was picked up on the live data read which was the root cause of some issues on warm up. Now fixed and it's...

Is your Disco getting a Xmas present?

Follow up on the Christmas treat for my Disco of a floorplan overhaul. It's nearing completion and the results are quite impressive, hoping to collect it in the next week or so.

    Out of patience.

I think that the freight cost from Texas might sway your decision!

Is your Disco getting a Xmas present?

A rather expensive and extensive floorpan overhaul involving YRM extended outer sills, inner sills, A & B post repair panels, closing panels. The bodyshop doing the work are using it as a fill in job and making a really superb job of the project. Expecting completion in late January; will just...
